I am writing this because I have the same problem and I would like to add my point of view....
- PC hangs - sometimes just after logging in, sometimes after few minutes and sometimes within an hour or more
- When PC hangs the HD LED lights up without any flashes
- When I reset the pc using the reset button, on boot up SSD HD on which windows is installed is not found
- I need to power off the wall socket.
- I have a clean install (not an upgrade) and tried to re-install it around 3 times but with same problems
- When PC hangs I encounter the following
- internet stops working
- HD LED is up with no blinking (like the mainboard is fetching some info and it is not able to find it)
- if I have music running it continues playing
- mouse works
- start menu does not come up
- Same hardware worked fine for 3 years using Windows 7
I have confirmed updating bios resolved the issue for my case.
I have also found out that the HDD led flashing lightly all the time is due to the DVD-ROM. When I disable it the flashing no more.
Btw, when the laptop hang the mouse could not move, HDD led lighted up solid not flashing and everything seemed frozen. The only way was to press the power button to shutdown.
It's really difficult to find out the root cause of random freezing. I have ever experienced the same problem with Windows 8 and Windows explorer randomly stops responding and I had to hard reboot the machine. After installing all Windows updates and uninstalling all the programs I suspected, it didn't help either. This problem eventually vanished when I upgraded to Windows 8.1.
It might help smb:
- Try to disable all services, including Cortana, One Drive, Acronis, Chrome, .....
- Check if problem persist
- If not, try to enable one by one and which one leads to freeze.
- In my case it was acronis (2014 version)
I'm having the same issues. I think it's MS BS attempt at forced automatic drivers installation. Alot of people have said that it's very buggy. I've gone to my MOBO maker and downloaded his drivers for WinX. I've already got them installed and it's already resolved one issue where Windows was unable to detect or remember my screen's native resolution. We'll see if the freezes go away and I'll report back.
Not sure about you guys with an SSD but I kept noticing 100% disk usage that was causing my machine to keep freezing after the Windows 10 upgrade.
I saw a solution and gave it a try and it seems to be working for me:

The answer is from TechPumpkin_WD and he points to a MS KB that shows a known issue with SSD and W10 and the solution.
Hope that helps somebody!
I have the same issue, I have tried doing an upgrade then a clean install on two different occasions. It worked without issue for the first day. I made a backup image of PC in working state then on the second day the freezing started and got so bad I could not use the PC. Restored the backup image but freezing continued. For now I have reverted to Win 7
