Hello OldGrantonian, :)
Just to verify, please go ahead and post a screenshot showing what you're seeing.

Have you read this tutorial from our forums ?
If not try its method.
How to Upload and Post Screenshots and Files at Ten Forums
OldGrantonian,
If this is a recovery drive, then it isn't installation media, and can't be used to do a repair install with.
If you like, you can use a Windows 10 ISO file to do a repair install with. The ISO will just need to be the same version as what you currently have installed.

While I was reading the tutorial, I noticed that my sceenshot had been inserted.
So, there must be a time delay. Anyway, the screenshot is in post #702
[BTW: The very simple method that I used is the same method that I've been using since SevenForums. It's completely intuitive, and seems to be a lot less complicated than any of the methods in the recommended tutorial :) ]
Thanks
I am having lots of issues like black screens of death where Windows Explorer freezes and the screens eventually turn black and all I can see if the mouse cursor floating in the blackness of space. When that happens the only way I can use the computer again is to hard power it off. Programs take a longer time then usual to open and printing PDFs also take a long time.
I am not sure what is causing these issues. It could be one of the recent Windows Updates, Malwarebytes (which has causes some issues in the past) or some other program or driver. I am pretty much illiterate when it comes to reading apps like Event Viewer and all that means nothing to me.
So I am considering a Repair as outlined in this tutorial, but since this is my work computer, I want to make sure that I will not lose any my programs (Quicken, WordPerfect, Word, Outlook 2010, etc), data or settings such as printers settings and set up.If someone could confirm this for me, I would feel a lot better. I already downloaded and mounted the W10 ISO a little while ago, so it is the latest version and my W10 is up to date. I also use Macrium Reflect as a backup program so I guess there is that to fall back on as well.
Anyway, any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Hello Gator, :)
The items you mentioned shouldn't be affected by doing a repair install since you're using the same version installation media as what you have installed.
Creating a Macrium Reflect image first would indeed be a good safety measure.
I hope the repair install will sort the issues you are having.
So are you saying that I will lose my precious version of WordPerfect?? LOL!! It's not that old. X8 is about 3 years old and newer than the version of Word I have (2010). I know everyone uses Word these days but WP is just so much easier to use (for me) than Word. I've used WordPerfect since the DOS days (yes, I am old) and I will keep WP until they pry it from my dead keyboard!
