    Hello PRMyx,

Were these apps moved to a different location than default? If so, their links could have been broken be the repair install.

It could also be from file corruption caused by something.
    Hi Shawn,

No, they weren't moved. I was just trying to repair install. I am currently on the same version with the ISO file that I downloaded but once done, I can't launch all my apps because of that error. I am always doing Windows Update but errors never occur that way.

I must admit that I'm not sure why you're getting that error message from this.

Brink, I am at my wits end. I have version 20H2 @ 19042.630 (would not update earlier so I backed up to 19042.630 to try to fix it, am STUCK now). Still would not update so I am attempting an 'in place upgrade' BUT your help here on page 1 (updated 20 Oct) says (red highlighted warning triangle before the video) Quote: If you have Windows 10 version 20H2 installed, then it is required to have KB4586853 for build 19042.662 or higher installed to be able to do a repair install and keep everything. Unquote) Again, mine is STUCK on 20H2 ver 19042.630, and KB4586853 will not install.

So, given the quoted note on OP, do I (or can I) do an in place upgrade to repair 19042.630, or .631 (if there is one) because this help topic says I have to have that KB4586853 to save everything during the in place upgrade.

Follow the link for KB4586853 and try installing it using the MSU and directions on the OP for KB4586853 . Download the appropriate MSU file, right click on it, and try installing that way.

Steve, I have this KB on my desktop and have tried (again just past few minutes) installing this KB every way I could. It goes through the entire install then shows the install was not installed. I just downloaded the ISO with the media creation tool but need to know if it'll lose all my stuff since the KB4586853 will not install. The only way I haven't tried to install this KB is in safe mode, not ever sure it can be installed in safe mode. Will be making the DVD Win10 install disk off the ISO, shortly. :)

When you do an in-place-upgrade, if you don't see the option to keep apps and files or it's grayed out, you can stop - so you won't lose anything trying.

Stop if you don't get the option to save both:

    What happens if you run

    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    followed by
    dism /online /cleanup-image /CheckHealth
feel free to post the outputs here.

With which error code fails the Update?

To determine this, please have a look at the update history in the Windows settings.

    Steve108:

The in place upgrade was cancelled. It would not let me save apps or files, per the last screen to install (point of no return). I tried first to make a DVD disk from the ISO, disk not big enough so I used the USB option and it ran fine until it got to the saving apps/files selection (was all greyed out, both 'dots' unable to be checked). I exited right there.

Admin cmd prompt sfc /scannow had files it could not fix, the section of "CBS.log where the errors were are:

The other cmd prompt dsm /online /cleanup-image /CheckHealth had "No component store corruption detected. That operation completed successfully.

Don't know if this can help figure this thing out?

Hi Tekkie, if your talking about the installed updates screen, it isn't there as a failed install, he11 it isn't there at all. It never got to register there I haven't seen 'failed' updates there on that screen in a looooong time (unless I am looking in the wrong place). Also, there is no error code shown it just says in the install window the update could not be installed.
