    Good result for disk.

That was an admin command prompt - not Powershell.

Try disconnecting the other disks- that will also check whether your PC is really booting from your Disk 1.

    Await partition screenshot.
OK will try that later . were the partition screenshots not what you wanted?

This is a trial and error step:

Boot using a Windows 10 iso

    type: bcdedit | find "osdevice"

type: dism /image:M:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions (change M to the applicable drive letter for the partition drive letter seen in the earlier steps: partition=?) ( There is a space between \ / )

    reboot
    Thanks
I think I have a win 10 ISO somewhere, so after I boot into windows I type the commands into powershell is that correct?
I tried in my current setup and I got an error message "FIND: Parameter format not correct"
I tried in cmd and nothing happens.
    sorry if I'm being stupid

There is a Windows Recovery Environment (RE) on a bootble windows 10 iso.
Open troubleshooting > command prompt > continue with the prior steps.

Powershell is available within Windows but not yet in Windows RE.

Ok before I read your last reply. I remembered I had a spare ssd which was a clone of my system a few months back.
I slotted it into my system and added this to my boot menu.

Booted up Ok tried bcdedit | find "osdevice"
I realised that you must have had a typo and tried (bcdedit / find "osdevice")
tried it cmd and powershell but it won't work in either.
I did bcdedit /? and find is not in the list of commands for bcdedit.

Of course as I don't really know what this is supposed to achieve so I might be doing this completely wrong.
And I assume anyway that I should boot from a usb to get sensible results but I am guessing here ?

    thanks for your patience

    Mike
Oh BTW one interesting clue that I gained by booting into the clone ssd was that when i restarted it worked !!
so I think it means all of the hardware is ok except possibly the c drive. ?

A bootable windows 10 iso has Windows RE.

There is also a Windows RE on the computer.
Sometimes one Windows RE performs differently from the other.
So using the Windows RE on the iso was suggested.

If you have a flash drive that you can format you can create a bootable windows 10 iso:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10
    Download Windows 10 ISO File
Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10

See if the command can run successfully using Windows RE on the computer using command prompt:
Boot to Advanced Startup Options in Windows 10

This is using administrative command prompt (normal windows boot):
    Code:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32>bcdedit | find "osdevice"
    osdevice partition=C:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>

Using Windows RE on a bootable flash drive the drive letter may be different from C:
So the bcdedit command is used.

    Ok I Understand now, thanks

    Mike

I booted into the installation usb and got to the command prompt but got the same results as far as the bcdedit / find "osdevice" command. So I tried bcdedit /? and it was the same. no find command in bcdedit

Oh and when I shutdown from there the PC shutdown OK

and I notice in your last reply you still used the "|" rather than "/" is that a typo ? only I did try that as well but that does not work either

I thought I'd better show you my results from typing it both ways

I have made a breakthrough of sorts.
    I added a "Verbose" entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
    and turned it on.
When I shut down It showed that it was sticking on Shutting down Hyper-v virtual machine management.
I temporarily turned off Hyper V in the windows features and shut down. It didn't work at first as even though I had stopped the service as well. it must have restarted as it stuck at the same spot.
after a forced shutdown though I rebooted and it began the windows update. after a long time updating winver still shows v 1909 though. ??
am going to test shutting down a few times to see what happens . If it works I'll try to turn hyper V on again
    Thanks

    1) Had you modified partitions on any of the disks?

    2) The logs displayed a BSOD today:
    2020-07-20T18:26:18.594

    3) Update the thread with the upgrade attempt

    3) Update the thread with the upgrade attempt
1)haven't modified partitions since my last re-install which was in March this year.
    2) certainly didn't see any Blue screen yesterday
    3) sorry not sure what you mean

I didn't let it upgrade last night was just going to do it now. I just have to restart ,do you want me to do that Now?

    - - - Updated - - -

Ok so I think the update that happened yesterday wes only a minor updat and not the 2004 one.
I downloaded the 2004 update last night and have now successfully installed it'

I have created a new V2 log and New DM log after the update and replaced the old logs in my dropbox so I assume the old link will still work.

Hopefully that's what you wanted me to do.
