    Error 0x800f081f tried @ install KB4598242 WAS at ver 20H2 B 19042.685

    .

Help? Home version 64 bit. Win update called for update to 19042.746 but it failed to error code 0x800f081f. Disk cleanup tried again, same error from WU. Tried sfc, same error code WU. SFC reported it could not find 4 reg. entry values 'missing' along with 2 'qmgr*.dat entries in the Admin sfc window (plus) a comment that some files were not repairable (paraphrase). Tried a system restore (only one I had was 26 Dec 2020 at 20H2 B 19042.630, same error with trying to get to B 19042.746 in win updates. I even downloaded the KB4598242 file from here in TF's, every one failed without giving a reason (except the error code in WU). This is an older laptop without a UEFI (imbedded license??) so it was an upgrade from win 7 to win 10 home 64bit. Until this 'burp', no problems using WU.

My question is what would you suggest that would get me to the latest 20H2? Right now stuck on 19042.630 ver of 20H2. Oh, SSU is installed (KB4598481). I do not know if I could 'go back' to b 19042.685 by undoing the system restore (restore was last night late, since then I might have done a disk cleanup) but will that solve anything?

zbook, OK, am down for the 'in place upgrade' BUT, does it say I have to have KB4586853 installed if I have 20H2?

IE: -( If you have Windows 10 version 20H2 installed, then it is required to have KB4586853 for build 19042.662 or higher installed to be able to do a repair install and keep everything. )-

I have version 20H2 @ 19042.630 and that KB4586853 will not install. In other words it seems to be asking for this KB for an in place upgrade (remember, I only have 19042,630 installed, it is where my system is stuck not able to update higher in win updates). Also, can I do a DVD from the ISO, it is asking me to make a USB flash drive, Does it matter which one I use, DVD or USB?

Tried following that vid by Steve (essenbe), getting lost. I must note this is an older laptop with the license IN the software, not on the MB. I do not want to lose the license if it wipes the record of it off the HDD during upgrade.

Also, will it keep my installed programs? Have a couple that I do not have the install media any more (too many moves and shuffling of boxes).

I can get the ISO, I can follow steps but lately they seem to be mixing me up in the way the steps are listed and the specific situation I have to fix.

Again, it is probably super simple but I am getting lost in the instructions, & have the above questions/concerns.

Appreciate any help to make it simpler...

The 'in-place upgrade' never did work but after much reading and
    additional
    help...

    :)
EUREKA! Got IT! Used 'search', looked up many topics, then CBS.log files corrupt entries after sfc scan, found a DSIM command that fixed whatever was screwing up the machine. That command run in admin DOS as " Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth ". Took quite a while, after that was suggested a restart, after that ran win update, and it downloaded/installed 4 updates including the last one 20H2 Ver. 19042.844 (and it also fixed the HDD running at or near 100% since late last year, which I am sure is a good thing). This was one helluva issue I had. Truly was almost a retirement of this laptop. Guys, thanks for all the suggestions! Between all the attempts and all the reversals, it's all good now. :)

    :) THANKS Guys & TenForums! :)
