    Move default save locations

Hi guys a little help please
I recently did a clean install of windows 10 Version 20H2 build 19042.746 during this install OneDrive was also installed after having problems with OneDrive I uninstalled it but it had changed the default save locations on three folders Documents, Desktop, Pictures. This is what it looks like in explorer C:\Users\%USERNAME%\OneDrive and then the three folders and now when I save anything it saves to these folders
I got the desktop folder sorted by going to the library and right clicking on the desktop icon then property then Location then restore default this worked fine.
But when I try this with my Documents and Pictures folder it says (Can’t move the folder because there is a folder in the same location access is denied)

I have tried moving these folder to a blank drive and it still says there is a folder already there

What can I do to get these default locations back please?

I did a search in this forum and followed to advice to alter the registry back to defaults and this worked but now when when i reboot its comes back

    Sam,

1 Applications normally default to the last folder from which a file was opened by the application and the last folder to which a file was saved by that application. So do please check that this is not inhibiting your interpretation of your symptoms.

2 Please run RegEdit [C:\Windows\regedit.exe]. It would take a long time to explain what I'm looking for here and I'd no doubt end up asking you to post these screenshots anyway so you might as well do that now and I'll review them for you.
2.1 Paste this into its address bar to get straight to the relevant key
    Code:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
and take a picture of the right-hand side of the window after you have dragged the column dividers around to make sure all entries are shown in full. Post this screenshot and label it 2.1 User Shell Folders so it cannot get mixed up.

2.2 Paste this into its address bar to get straight to the relevant key
    Code:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
and take a picture of the right-hand side of the window after you have dragged the column dividers around to make sure all entries are shown in full. Post this screenshot and label it 2.2 Shell Folders so it cannot get mixed up.

    Sam,

I've only just seen this updated comment. Please explain what procedure you followed because those parameters reverting after a reboot is not normal.

    Sam,

In case it needs saying, I believe this situation is fully resolvable.

I would like to check that we are not barking up the wrong tree. Your comment about reverting after a reboot rings a vague bell. It might be the case that your user folders are in the right place but have misleading "Display names" - this can happen after some particular relocations.
    - Just by way of example, I have ignored some rules and 'relocated' my Desktop, Downloads & Screenshots folders to the same place [my Desktop] so it can appear with any of those 'Display names'.
    - Everything works correctly but it can get confusing when I'm looking for "Desktop" and cannot see it because it has decided to display as "Downloads" this morning.
    - I have never bothered trying to fix this but there is a forum member who knows a lot about the subject so we have somewhere to go if we get stuck.

The following additional checks, when combined with the other ones I asked you to do, ought to reveal just what is going on.

In File explorer, browse to your Documents folder. Click in a blank area of the File explorer address bar not on any of the text currently showing [off to the right, say, as there's always blank space there] and you'll see what happens - it can be very useful.

This changes to thereby confirming the real folder path [the right-hand one has no 'Display names' to mislead you; the left-hand one does]
    - This can also be quite handy because it allows you to copy the path to avoid typos when setting things up later on.

Q1 Would you please tell me what this shows - label it Documents folder using Display names
Q2 And what this shows - label it Documents folder true path

Q3 Then do the same for your Pictures folder - label the first one Pictures folder using Display names

Q4 Then do the same for your Pictures folder - label the second one Pictures folder true path

Q5 Right-click on your Documents folder, select Properties. You should see a Location tab. Please tell me what path is shown in it or tell me that it has no Location tab. Label this answer Documents folder location

Q6 Right-click on your Pictures folder, select Properties. You should see a Location tab. Please tell me what path is shown in it or tell me that it has no Location tab. Label this answer Pictures folder location
