Jump list File Explorer items not opening program

Hi, thanks for the welcome note. I have for many months been suffering from the Jump list items on File Explorer not opening the program or item- after clicking the jump list item nothing happens. However if I right click on the jump list item then the mini menu does say Open at the very top which then does open the item. But that's not how it used to be. All other jump list programs work like a dream as they're meant to. I've been trolling the web for months trying to find a solution so I hope you guys can help. Many thanks. John

Hi, sometimes a 3rd party program can cause this: see e.g. post #12
    Jump List Items not Opening

You might also consider disabling all non-MS shell extensions (context menu) starting with e.g. Shellexview (free) to see if any are having an adverse effect.

    I agree with dalchina.

Boot into Safe mode to see if the problem happens there and then reboot normally.
Boot into Safe Mode - TenForumsTutorials
    - If the problem does happen in Safe mode
    - Find out if the problem exists for another user account. Create a new local user account for this test if you do not already have one
Add Local Account or Microsoft Account - TenForumsTutorials
Put a decent password on it so you need not be in a hurry to remove it after the test [and write the password down somewhere secure yet accessible]
    then, if necessary,
    - SFC-DISM - TenForumsTutorials
    then, if necessary,
    - Repair Install - TenForumsTutorials {note that, despite its name, this is a repair procedure not an installation}
    - If the problem does not happen in Safe mode

Before considering an in-place upgrade repair install try the other steps, and in particular after those

    - create a new user for test purposes
    - log in as that user and see if the problem exists.

If it doesn't, an in-place upgrade repair install almost certainly won't fix it. (However there's still the possibility of 3rd party program conflict with explorer where one is common to all users).
