Version 1903 (OS Build 19013.1122) - No screen output on laptop

I am in the slow ring to get Windows 10 preview updates. I recently got the Version 1903 (OS Build 19013.1122) update, which worked fine for about a day, then I suddenly lost video output. I can get nothing on the laptop screen or any externally connected screens. Last night when this first happened I was momentarily able to get the screen to work, noticing that the video resolution was sub par. Thinking there might be a driver issue, I logged in with an admin account and removed and re-added the video display from the device manager. This fixed the issue for the night. The next day, when I turned the laptop back on, I was back to no display. Only now I can't replicate the fix that I used the first time.
This is an HP Pavilion dv7. Wide screen, with dual graphics adapters (Intel and Radeon). The laptop seems to boot up fine. You can hear it play the start sound, and, if I tap the space bar, and then use the fingerprint reader to login, you can see that it's doing something, but just not outputting it to the screen. Has anyone else reported this issue? Does anyone have any ideas? I would like to be able to get the screen working again long enough to try and roll it back to just before the update was installed.
    Thank you in advance.

Power up and drop power 3 times, next boot will take you to the recovery menu. You should be able to roll back the update from there.

After performing the rollback as per Ztruker please perform the following steps:

    1) Find a flash drive

    2) On a working computer download HP Diagnostics UEFI to the flash drive

    3) Move the flash drive to the problematic computer

    4) Power on the computer and repetitively click F9

    5) Launch the HP Diagnostics UEFI and overnight run the extensive test in loop until failure

    6) The next AM run the component tests or graphics (some are interactive)

    7) find a camera or smartphone camera to take pictures and post images into the thread

    Still having same issue

    Zbook,

This time it won't let me roll back the update. Here is the series of screens I get now, when I use the Automatic Repair options:

Version 1903 (OS Build 19013.1122) - No screen output on laptop-20191124_101415.jpgVersion 1903 (OS Build 19013.1122) - No screen output on laptop-20191124_101428.jpgVersion 1903 (OS Build 19013.1122) - No screen output on laptop-20191124_101501.jpgVersion 1903 (OS Build 19013.1122) - No screen output on laptop-20191124_101518.jpgVersion 1903 (OS Build 19013.1122) - No screen output on laptop-20191124_101527.jpg

So it looks like rollback is no longer an option. Any thoughts?

    Thank you,

    Tim

When you power on the computer what do you see and hear?

Please post images of the HP disgnostics UEFI results.

    Zbook,

It powers on normally. You hear the startup sound. You can even "log in" by tapping the Enter or Space key, and then (in my case) using the finger print reader. You just don't get any video output, anywhere. Not the built-in screen, not an external attached to the VGA port or and external attached to the HDMI port.

It won't let me select the USB drive as a boot device. Also, one question about the UEFI diagnostics file. I am just copying the executable straight from the working computer I downloaded it from. Was I supposed to run the executable from the working computer to "build" the bootable thumb drive?

Use a working computer to add the HP diagnostics UEFI.
It does not format the flash drive. It does not make the flash drive bootable.
Power on > repetitively click F9 > click external USB HD > run HP diagnostics from the flash drive

Find 3 flash drives that you can format (> or = 8 GB)
Create these tools on a working computer:

    1) Windows 10 iso:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10
    Download Windows 10 ISO File
Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10

    2) Bootable Ubuntu flash drive:
Create a bootable USB stick on Windows | Ubuntu tutorials

    3) Kyhi Boot rescue:
    Toolkit Item: Kyhi’s Rescue Disk – Win10.Guru

With the HP UEFI diagnostics and the 3 bootable flash drives there should be options to:
    a) check hardware
    b) backup important files to another drive or the cloud
    c) reset save files equivalent
    d) clean install
    e) troubleshoot

    Thank you!

    Zbook,

I'll give it another go. When I tried it before replying to you, I could not get it to include the flash drive in the boot choices. I understand the drive isn't intended to be bootable, but it won't even let me select it to search the drive for the diagnostics executable.

Let's see what happens with Ubuntu, windows 10 iso, and Kyhi boot rescue.

Power on the computer and repetitively click F10 or F2 and run the onboard diagnostics.
These are typically minimal unless downloaded from the HP website.

    Understood

Will give that a go shortly. I'll let you know what happens.

Oh, and just as I got done typing the first sentence of this reply, I was able to get the screen to actually show with another reboot. Now I am getting a message that says that the AMD Radeon driver is either installed incorrectly or not present. It was working fine before the update. I am using the AMD tool to detect the hardware and see if there is a better driver, although when I checked it using Windows "update driver" from the device manager, it said the best driver was already installed.
