Windows 10 April 2018 Update now available Monday, April 30

Found something good say about 1803 (for once :)) after a few days Timeline has kicked in and appears to be working. The lion's share of entries are for Edge, but Notepad's there too. Even 'legacy apps' such as my 18-year old Paint Shop Pro 7 get in on the act...
I agree... I'm finding timeline extremely useful in practice. I have around a couple of hundred entries per day when I look. Everything seems to be there, web stuff and local stuff I've opened.

Yes it works a bit too well...it's very time consuming to find something I did a week ago, especially if there's hundreds of entries per day with thumbnails and all.

This update stinks!
All my previous Win 10 updates installed with ease and basically zero/minor problems.
Then I must ask, why, when your previous install was working so well, why you installed the upgrade in the first place?
If it aint broke, dont fix it!

I agree, but I had so much success in all the past upgrades it was worth a shot. Plus I can only pause auto-updates for 35 days before it haunts me again. Hopefully there will be some fixes in the coming weeks but probably not for some of my apps that now don't work..
My rant is not so much for me but the grief of the simple users out there that now have a computer that won't work properly, if at all, and don't know anything about computing in general to fix them.
My backups always save me

That's the thing. "simple users" won't have updated yet. Not pushed out automatically until the 8th of May I believe.

You have Pro then?
'Pause updates' isn't the only control available in Pro, you can also switch the branch readiness level from 'Semi-Annual Channel (Targeted)' to 'Semi-Annual Channel'. You would then not get the Features Update to 1803 until the next version is released on the Targeted channel. That is expected to be 1809 in October. In addition, you can defer Features Updates for up to 365 days.

I just clicked on check for updates on May 4th, and it downloaded and installed. My sister and a friend did the same.

Those two statements are not as incompatible as they may seem at first glance. They are both true, a manual check for updates will get 1803 through windows update, but it's not going to start appearing for automatic checks until the 8th.
Microsoft said:
The April 2018 Update is available today if you go to Windows Update and manually check for updates. We will begin the global rollout out via Windows Update on May 8.

Thank you very much!
Yes I have Pro
I didn't know that about the two channels. That does solve my problem of not upgrading for many months.
I switched to the Semi-Annual Channel, does that only stop "Features Update to 1803", will I get other updates, security, etc?

So your sister and friend are not distastefully bracketed as "simple users" then. That's good to know.
