Found something good say about 1803 (for once :)) after a few days Timeline has kicked in and appears to be working. The lion's share of entries are for Edge, but Notepad's there too. Even 'legacy apps' such as my 18-year old Paint Shop Pro 7 get in on the act...

That's on the skip ahead build, not the April 2018 update:
New Windows 10 Insider Preview Fast and Skip Ahead Build 17661 - May 3 Insider - Windows 10 Forums

. We started our work moving Sound settings to Settings with the Windows 10 April 2018 Update, and we’re happy to announce the next piece of that with today’s flight. Device properties has now been integrated into Settings – just click on the links in Sound Settings and you’ll find a new page where you can name your device and select your preferred spatial audio format.

    This update stinks!

All my previous Win 10 updates installed with ease and basically zero/minor problems.

With this update I experience ..........

Many critical apps that I need for my work won't run anymore.

PC won't shut down, need to hold in power button

    TV tuner card won't run

    PC runs extremely slow

Reverted back to 1709, PC boots in 15 seconds, shuts down in 10 sec. All my 150+ apps run just fine. TV tuner now runs.

I have 3 people that I help with their computers call me this past week that they have all kinds of problems since the update. I made them all install external drives for backups long ago. I restored them back to 1709. The little computer guy doesn't know all what we know on these forums. They can't cope with the flaws and crashes, they don't understand the technicals. They are simple users. A few want me to return them back to Win 7. Why does MS make these Win 10 updates soooooo difficult for the simple end user? Plus no way to permanently turn off auto updates as many of these simple users say they don't need any updates, when their computers and apps are running fine why would they want to update and cause all kind of grief and flaws. The updates gives them nothing new that they want or need.

Lol, not updating might give them a lot of something they absolutely do not want, like malware that kills all important user data.

But true enough, this release is the worst of them all since they started to develop it. I love all the new features and improvements but wish it didn't come with all the bugs too.

My system runs stable and so does many others too, ...but I know there's a lot to fix before this release is even close to being business ready. :)

    Thanks.
Lately it seems they "fix" the stuff that works, but I thought you weren't suppose to do that

I tried to post a screenshot on this forum (on this thread) and it hung up the first time. Don't know if it was the screenshot or Edge but I had to shut down Edge with the Task Manager. Second time, it was OK. I did some other browsing with Edge and didn't have any more problems.

Edge does that for me sometimes. Usually it's enough to just duplicate the frozen tab and close the original. The cloned tab runs normally again.

In my case Edge was unresponsive. Couldn't close the tab, open another tab or even close Edge. Had to do it with the Task Manager.
