Help locked out with no recovery options

Hello I am as tech savvy as a frog in the undiscovered amazon rainforest and every month or so I have to clean reboot my msi laptop back to factory settings because it’s the fastest way to fix printer problems .

So with that in mind please keep it simple if anyone can suggest a way to recover my laptop .

last reboot was about 2 weeks ago and everything has been fine until today when annoyed to find my full name plastered on my login screen (and probably all over the internet by now) and discovering it was caused by my having a Microsoft account which I don’t want , so I spent hours trying and failing to follow internet instructions to delete the account .

In the end a little box popped up with the outlook email address in it and I deleted it there .

My full name is still on login screen but my password is not recognised and all options on the recovery screen fail in seconds .

I don’t have an msi recovery disk because I burned 4 several times and it always failed at the end and the mighty memory stick I bought instead went in the bin because it never got started .

So do I have any options or is my laptop dead ?

    No, not at all.

    1 Enable the Built-In Admin,
2 Use the Built-In Admin to create two*** new local, password-protected Admin user accounts,
*** I suggest making two new accounts.
    - One to use as your new day-to-day account
    - The second to hold in reserve in case [as has just happened to you] your day-to-day account becomes corrupt.
3 Write down the passwords to the new accounts,
    4 Disable the Built-In Admin.

Enable or Disable Built-in Elevated Administrator Account [Option 5] - TenForumsTutorials
Add Local Account or Microsoft Account - TenForumsTutorials
Change Account Type - TenForumsTutorials - to make it an Admin account

5 If you cannot get the <OldUserName> account working again then you'll need to use one of the new accounts as your new day-to-day account. If so, use the Admin privileges of your new Admin account to browse around C:\Users\<OldUserName>\Documents [\Music, \Pictures, \Videos, \…] to copy your old files to your new user account.
    - I suggest you assume you cannot get it working again and just proceed with using one of the new user accounts
    - When you are up & running again, you can post back to discuss the state of the old user account and to see if it can be resuscitated. This might involve awkward steps so is best left until after you are up & running so you've got your computer back and can get on with using it.

then there might have been easier options but steps 1-6 will sort you out in any case.

Make sure you write their passwords down somewhere secure yet readily available to you. Writing down their passwords is as effective as & is a lot cheaper than making 'Password reset disks' [which are only for local accounts anyway]. I always write user account passwords down on a piece of paper that I keep inside one of those dog nametag cylinder things attached to my main keyring -
Here's a [UK] link for some example ID tags https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pet-Barrel-.../dp/B00DEB1JVQ There are lots of available choices but I bought ones that, like these, have a slot in the bottom for me to swing off so I can be confident they won't come apart accidentally while I'm out & about.

I cannot help because you have not been specific enough. Which step of which tutorial?

Windows 10 does not get erased by the deletion of a user account.

I cannot access my computer at all it starts up in repair mode and finishes on the blue screen cannot repair .

Every available option on the blue recovery screen takes less than 5 seconds to end "cannot repair"

I can't even get to my login screen any more to see if the admin password i added to BIOS might let me in .

    Helen,

I now agree that a reinstallation is your only viable option.
    Clean Install - TenForumsTutorials

If your file backups were not completely up to date then you can rescue copies of your files before running the clean install.
It might be better to ask a computer-savvy friend to help you with this because there are so many ifs, buts & maybes in the procedure.
    In brief,
    boot from the InstallUSB,
choose Repair your computer [instead of Install now],
    Troubleshoot,
    Command prompt,
then browse around the computer to find and rescue your files
    - drive letters are not the same as those when booting into Windows so, for example, the Windows drive may not be C:\
    - you can use Notepad as a rudimentary yet satisfactory File explorer substitute - see my ditty - Use InstallUSB Notepad as a rudimentary file explorer - TenForums

    Helen,

The whole install procedure involves downloading the ISO file then making your own InstallUSB and then running the clean install.
Download Windows 10 ISO File from MS - TenForumsTutorials - this can be combined with creating the InstallUSB, details in the tutorial
Create Bootable Installation USB - TenForumsTutorials - this can be combined with downloading the ISO, details in the tutorial
    Clean Install - TenForumsTutorials

For the InstallUSB, you can reuse any USB stick of at least 8GB that you already own. Or get Amazon to send one - personally, I always pay the extra to buy USB sticks directly from Amazon rather than their Amazon Marketplace traders because there are so many fakes around that fail when you try using them.

I do not know why the word Linux has appeared in this thread.
