I'm needing a bit of help I tried to factory reset my windows 10 laptop and I think I didn't click something right. I'm currently using the same laptop which I talking about. So here's the problem I want to set it to factory reset with just like taking it out of the box.

Its a windows 10 pro laptop its a 64 bit and version 1903.

How do I factory reset this darn thing it has been so long since I have done it plus I have never done it before on this computer.

    Thank You!

Plus I do want t factory reset I already backed everything up on flash drives.

What problems are you having that need a reset?

    Other options are:

    a) Troubleshooting
    b) Clean install
    c) Custom install
    d) Restoring an image
    etc.

When I purchased the laptop it was used and there is a user account names "Pawn" short for pawn shop and I will need to make a second administrator account and the delete this main administrator account just to remove the pawn. Plus I have been having issues changing out my icons for open folders and such so I figure start out from scratch would be just as good as making a second account and then still maybe having the same issues with the icons. So I would like to do a factory reset but not sure how to.

A reset keeps the partition structure that was on the PC.

A clean install allows the current Microsoft default partition structure.

And with clean install you will have to create a new user account.

Check to make sure your licensing is in order:
    Activation troubleshooting

    A. Activation Diagnostic Tool
    extract all > windows validation

    Clean Install Windows 10

    Download Windows 10 ISO File
Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10

    Custom Install Windows 10

I followed from 4 and 7. On recovery from settings. I selected delete everything and it is currently saying "resetting this PC 1%". There is nothing new yet. I want to factory reset this whole computer so I can start fresh. And I don't have the windows on a flash drive I just want to reinstall from the computer. And I don't want to mess things up. So that is why I am asking so many questions and try to be specific.

Okay I followed through and I went into the troubleshooting and clicked remove everything and then I was told I have 2 drives and I only worked on the drive where my windows are located and then I removed all my files but not a full cleaning since I am keeping my computer. So far it's saying "reset this PC - getting things ready."

A clean install can be performed without a bootable Windows 10 iso.
However this method is much more complicated than using a bootable Windows 10 iso.

To look into the reset failure it may be possible to troubleshoot files.

The most efficient method is clean install with a bootable iso.

Hi, at step 5 (insert installation medium) what are the requirements for that, and what happens if different to the build installed?

E.g. if the installation medium is of an older/later major build or different base language?

I might have thought there would be a requirement for this to match.

    Thanks.

    Hey mate,

Normally, Windows 10 will have its own recovery image saved on the Windows drive that would be used to reset with.

I would like to think it wouldn't matter, but I haven't tested to see which build or version is used if you use an older one to reset with at step 5.

It will most likely give you an error message if the media cannot be used to reset with though.
