I have a HP with win 10 on it. I'd like to sell it. So to keep win 10 on it but deactivate the product key they would just have to what buy a product key?
Five months ago, I bought a new HP Pavilion Power Ghost laptop with Windows 10 Home OEM installed. A few days after I started using it, I bought a Pro key through the Microsoft store. If I remember correctly, the laptop activated the Pro key automatically later on. Unfortunately, four months on, the USB controller failed. It was repaired under warranty by replacing the USB controller board. 18 days later, the same failure happened again.
I am returning the laptop to the store and have chosen a Lenovo Legion Y520 laptop and I should have it in 3 to 6 days. It
comes with Windows 10 Home. On the HP, I will first deactivate my Pro key then restore Windows from the recovery partition before returning it to the store.
When I first use the Lenovo, I will go through the change key process to use my Pro key. I anticipate that it will not activate and I will have to go through more steps to get the Pro key accepted on the laptop. Has anyone done what I have to do? If so, what did you have to do to get your Pro key activated? Any advice most welcome :)
Digital Licences are purchased from the Store - you will have to transfer it.

Thank you for the link Superfly.
Just an update: I ended up phoning Microsoft support and allowed their Technician remote access to my new laptop and he activated my Home to Pro. I was watching the screen and it looked like he was having trouble getting the original Pro key to be accepted on my new laptop. In the end, he used a different key of which I took a note of. The whole exercise, from the first phone call to Tech support, to the end, took 1.75 hours.
Hi just curious but i gave my cousin my old motherboard and he bought a Ryzen 3 1200 but the thing is he had in his old system a pirated Windows 7 key that was upgraded to 10 and is no linked on his MS account and for some reason his audio drivers isn't working would i need to deactivate that version of Windows to fix that problem because i do not know what to do and also planning on buying him a legit Windows 10 key with a 120gb SSD as well (because the 500GB HDD he has is old but still good but also slow) so any help would be appreciated if you can.
