If you like, you could try using the Windows 10 Update Assistant to update to the latest version of Windows 10 instead.

Hi,
I never did manage to fix the sound. I've just formatted my C drive which the mail app is installed on. It still doesn't work.
Hello @CosmicHorizon,
Please go ahead and post some screenshots showing your Mail app settings and Settings > Notifications settings to see if anything may stand out.

I've already showed screenshots in this thread (might be different now though, not only have I formatted the C drive today, but 2 hours after that I got a message to upgrade to another version of windows 10). And I've already put to "on" all the relevant controls (I note though the upgrade switched off the sound in the mail settings! However, I switched it on again).
When all Windows Updates have been installed, double check for app updates in the Microsoft Store app.
Once all updates are done, check the sound settings in your Mail app again to make sure they are still turned on.
Also, check to make sure Play a sound when a notification arrives is checked for the Mail app like below.

I've been installing a huge number of updates today after formatting the C drive. Plus that massive update to a new version of W10. Yes I have them switched on, both there as in your pic and in the mail settings. Since the sound doesn't even work with a format, it must be w10 that is simply not functional in this regard. Is there anyone out there who can actually receive sounds with the mail app? I need to install another email client. Will try thunderbird.
It's currently playing a notification sound for me for the Mail app when new messages arrive.
Does your sound work otherwise for other items?
