    Optimize-Volume -DriveLetter C -Analyze -Verbose

I ran the above and got the following result:

You do not need to defragment this volume.

The, I ran Auslogics Disk Defrag, which found a lot of fragments—the red boxes.

Best ( and safest !) way is ; manual trim your SSDs , once a month...............!!
Dont defrag your HDDs anymore ( does more harm then good !)

You have data or a reference link?

I'll let Windows continue to maintain my drives as I've done for years without issue.

There is always a "Does this drive need to be Defragged/Trimmed ?" algorithm involved with this type of utility. Unsurprisingly there is not a universal set of parameters used by every software developer so different results will be seen from different utilities,

Of course the most important answer to the above question is the one from You the User

My suggestion is to choose one utility software only, and then set your own maximum time between operations and include this in the default settings. There is nothing to stop you from performing defrag/trim before it's due if you have been saving/moving/deleting a lot of data, but what it does do is ensure that you are prompted when the software believes it is due, which you can then action or delay as you feel appropriate.

" I've done for years without issue. ".................yes , I did so too .
However latest Win10 versions having bugs ( sometimes) with this "Optimize"- features , my SSD is too precious for me , dont gamble with it , so manual trim once a month.........

    Hi there
How is it this old beast is STILL making the rounds

You never need to defrag any SSD / NVMe device -- ever. Think about it logically -- there's no device rotation -- data is stored in essentially a 2-D array like map co-ordinates so any part of the SSD is just as quickly addressable as any other !! -- what would you gain by defrag !!!.

I've never found any sort of defragging to yield even perceptable improvements even back in the days of IDE devices -- certainly never on SATA ones.

"Optimize drives" these days is a bit of a myth -- that was a problem of C20 rather like some of the old fashioned free anti virus products.

Improvement in OS file systems etc also can take care of a lot of this automatically too.

    Cheers

For now , I trim when it suits me .........so , after a cumulative and after cleaning , the best conditions for trimming SSD...........

jimbo ; we are talking about TRIMMING , defragging is out of the question , imo you are right about defragging...........
