I found out that somehow (about a week ago), in the BIOS, the VCORE Offset was increased by over +.2V that occurred at/around the same time the latest big update to Windows on my computer. It was previously all set to Auto/+0V.
Not sure how that happened, I haven't even been in my BIOS for nearly a year and I am the only one in my househould. I just know that it somehow occurred during the last big update upon restart (I know, doesn't make sense, should not have happened).
In any case, I set it all back to normal and temps went down back to normal, then I even undervolted a bit and now I barely ever peak past 60C for the cores (in Core Temp) and rarely above 50C for my CPU Temp (measured with the Gigabyte System Information Viewer).
In conclusion, my temperature increase seemed to be due to the (unexplained) increase to the VCORE Offset in the BIOS. All is well now, I'm just left confused with zero knowledge to why or how it happened.
Thanks to all who looked in to try to help.
Dear Highlanderknigh,
I have exactly the same issue.
My cpu Vcore Voltage reading is +1.104.
I cannot find a way to lower it.
Is there a way to set a lower value in order to get lower and more stable cpu temps?
Thanks in advance.
Hello!
My system is as follows:
Cpu i7-8700k
Gpu gigabyte 2080
Mobo asrock z370 extreme 4
Psu Corsair rmx 750.
Just today I downloaded the latest windows updates.During the installation I was monitoring the cpu temp. Cpu usage was low,but cpu temp was at 45-50 C during the installation process.
Cpu temp dropped at 31 after installation was complete.
I find that somewhat strange.I am thinking that maybe in the past I accidentally changed some uefi settings about the cpu, resulting in an unwanted/random kind of overclock, and that is why cpu temps spike.
Thank you.
any update on your situation? I am currently having the same issue. It's beyond frustrating me.
Hi,
What BIOS version is currently loaded on your motherboard?
Also check in the BIOS what the "CPU Lite Load" setting is set to. MSI introduced this setting to ensure stability for poor quality CPU's running at stock speeds. MSI gradually increased the CPU Lite Load setting with each new BIOS version, unfortunately most users don't know this and will only notice that their CPU's are running at higher temperatures due to the increased Vcore.
The latest BIOS for your motherboard is version 7B17vA7.
Support For MPG Z390 GAMING EDGE AC | Motherboard - The world leader in motherboard design | MSI Global
The CPU Lite Load Mode_1 setting is the lowest setting and each higher mode increases the Vcore with about 0.008V.
Here are the settings that I use with the CPU Lite Load set to Mode_1:
OC Explore Mode: Expert
CPU Ration Apply Mode: All Core
CPU Ratio: Auto
CPU Ratio Offset When Running AVX: Auto
Ring Ratio: Auto
EIST: Enabled
Intel Turbo Boost: Enabled
Enhanced Turbo: Disabled
CPU Loadline Calibration Control: Mode 7
CPU Core Voltage Mode: Adaptive+Offset
CPU Core Voltage: Auto
CPU Core Voltage Mode: -
CPU Core Voltage Offset: 0.020
Intel C-State: Enabled
C1E Support: Disabled
Package C-State Limit: C8
CPU Lite Load: Mode_1
