    Hi,

Thanks for the link. Unfortunatly none of them helped (I already have the service set to auto start, and I don't see the "more bluetooth options" in Settings)

    Here is what I see:

Can't get bluetooth to connect on Win10-2019-10-15-11-20-07.png

This is what I get in the botoom right:

Can't get bluetooth to connect on Win10-bt.png

When I right click and tell it to start BT, I get:

Can't get bluetooth to connect on Win10-bt2.png

Unfortunatly that is as far as it gets (it shows the notification for a bit and then closes, but BT isn't turned on / the icon doesn't go blue)

    Cheers

You could just try an in-place upgrade repair install.. which needs an iso of your current build. Sometimes that's the quickest way.

Else you'll just need to try to find a solution based on your specific symptoms and hope you hit on the right one.

Thanks. I think I will let my brother have a look when he is over next. Not sure I like the idea of doing an in-place upgrade repair, in case it buggers something else up (this is my work PC)

Thanks for all your help though - I'll post a soution if, and when, I find one :)

    Cheers

You could, of course, try Tweaking.com's free cautious repair tool - select repairs carefully. It guides you to create registry backups etc in preparation. Easy to find.

Do you see the same problem if you create a new user for test purposes and log in as that user? if not, an in-place upgrade repair won't help..

And are other USB devices ok?

Do you have any suggestions for a decent dongle BT adaptor otherwise?
Somewhere in my 'travels' I acquired a such a dongle, plugged it in the other day and it is marketed by IOGear but is by Broadcom who provides a lot of wireless adapters. It identifies as version 4.

for comment about 1903 and some Bluetooth drivers

    (just search it for Bluetooth)

You do not have to install any drivers for that dongle, Windows will install them. Airplane mode can affect BT if enabled. At this point I would uninstall the device and drivers and if you have to at worse case scenario, you may have to nuke the current Windows install and do a clean install to possibly fix.

i'd suggest it's because it's not being recognised properly that you have ended up trying to install drivers for it.

If I uninstall the drivers I had, and then scan for new hardware - I get the same:

    Bluetooth RFBUS
    Bluetooth RFHID
    Generic Bluetooth Radio

The bluetooth icon shows in the bottom right of the screen, but when you try and turn it on it just stays grey

Airplane mode is also not turned on (not sure you even have that option on a PC?)

    Cheers

Thanks. I'm on the latest Win10 updates (not sure what build version though).

I'll have a look at Tweaking.com's method when I get some time (bit caught up with work at the moment, so was hoping this driver issue would be a simple fix - so much for that lol)
