What a load of total rubbish, There is one H*%^$ of a difference in having a an upgrade automatically continue as the user can set and forget and move on to other tasks, ( not necessarily computer tasks), and auto restart of running apps after reboot This restart of apps is likely to be only some of those running when the system is rebooted, due to most developers ignoring the setting, and is a totally different issue and has to have it's own controls.
Annoying aspects of this "feature":
- You can't turn it off
- It's inconsistent - some apps restart and others don't
- It takes longer to restart apps after boot than it does for me to do it manually - I've often opened the apps I want by the time it loads them and then get window duplication interrupting what I've started doing.
Wish this could have been designed more thoughtfully...
disable energy saving state or hold shift while shutting down and this shouldnt happen at all
Here's something you all can try. Hope it helps. Been subscribed to this MS Community thread and getting too many emails. Too many whiners. This fellow on the last post of this page may have a solution, or at least a workaround:
Programs autostart after boot in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update - Microsoft Community
He refers to this tutorial:
boot - After Windows 10 Fall Creators Update recent used app will launch on startup - Super User
