I Enabled TPM 2.0 now what? Would like to know next steps if needed

I enabled TPM 2.0 on my computer with the plan of updating to Windows 11. Prior to doing so articles mentioned BitLocker key etc. So since I may at some point need such a key how does one get one? I see articles about what to do if you lose it but how does one get it to start off with? Or do I even need it?

    @pintree3

Please post a screen shot of Disk Management...

How to Post a Screenshot of Disk Management

These are the BIOS settings required for Windows 11... CSM needs to be Enabled to select one of the options shown, under Boot Device Control. After that... some motherboard like CSM disabled, some like it enabled.

MINE likes CSM set to... (enabled)

These settings are for Windows OS disks that are GPT. This is why I need to see the Disk Management screen shot.
If you apply these settings on computers with an OS disk that is MBR... the computer will not boot.

On the "Boot" tab in your BIOS...

As for Bitlocker... I dunno. I run Win 10 Home and Win 11 Home.

I know W-11 needs it that is why I enabled it. My question was, "and now what?" What am I supposed to do after my BIOS change? Are there further steps? Is there anything I should worry about or other steps to take, other things needed, to be concerned with, etc.?

Aside from your Bitlocker question... you're good to go.

You have three options for getting to Windows 11...

    1. Through Windows Update
    2. Via an In-Place Upgrade

Repair Install Windows 11 with an In-place Upgrade Tutorial | Windows 11 Forum

Use Option #2 of the In-Place Upgrade tutorial (use the ISO image)

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

    DISABLE non-Microsoft:
    a) antivirus software
    b) firewall software
    c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect or AOMEI Backupper Standard
Making a backup is optional, but always a smart move.
    Macrium Reflect
    AOMEI Backupper Standard (free)
    Hasleo Backup Suite (free)

    Turn Bitlocker OFF.

Get the Windows 11 ISO (Option #2), and save it to your desktop...

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations.
Your drivers, programs and data will be intact.

    3. Or via a clean install of Windows 11.

My Windows 10 was running perfectly... so I just did an In-Place upgrade.
From your disk management screenshot.... it's apparent, that Disk 3 is a GPT disk.

So, everything is ready. I would turn off Bitlocker before you do either of the three options.

I would also make a backup... in case (after 10 days)... you want to return to Windows 10.

NOTE: On my system, which is pretty much the same as yours... the In-Place Upgrade took 40 minutes, including the download of the Windows 11 ISO.

    Hello @pintree3,

It all depends on if Device encryption or BitLocker is turned on automatically or by you for the OS drive when you upgrade to W11.

Where the BitLocker recovery key gets saved to depends on if you sign in with a Microsoft account or local account. If Microsoft account, it automatically gets saved to it. If local account, you'll need to manually back up the key.

And just consider that you get another Recovery Partition, so that you have 3 and an unallocated space of 525 MB afterwards
