Oh boy - I don't know what use for backups, but we strongly recommend Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

For your shutdown problem, run "powercfg /h off" to disable hibernation and Windows fast startup and see if it fixes the problem.

I imagine they fixed it by now, but certainly easy enough to rule out here.

    Clayton,

And is your display scaling set to 100%?

But your TS problem does now seem to be the least of your worries.

Yep, the drive could be on its last leg! They can act wonky, where it looks like something else is the cause.
That would almost always be if a drive is faulty. (defective) I've gotten defective SSDs before!

If you suspect a drive going bad or just want to rule it out use HD Sentinel app or similar to check.

Display scaling is 100%; I never change that setting.

Yes possible. However, the drive is new; part of the hardware upgrade. More and more, I'm lead to suspect that the OS was somehow corrupted when the MS tech re-activated my license (issued a new product key). Hindsight, yes. I've done a few hardware upgrades in the past with no issues. I used Reflect to clone the new drive, but assumed the old drive would be a valid source. I reasoned that I should correct the license issue before cloning the drive. When you assume...

Excellent! One problem solved... However, I had successfully shutdown numerous times earlier in the day. I made no changes to the power settings. The system appears to just be randomly reconfiguring itself.

Sadly, everything seems to be pointing to a clean installation as the only viable solution.

A repair install is basically like a clean install, but you keep your apps and files, so if you have a lot of apps and files it's worth trying. Final resort would be a clean install.

Brink's tutorial on In-Place Upgrade states:

The installation media (ex: ISO or USB) must be the same edition and same or newer build as your currently installed Windows 10. If it's not, then the repair install will fail.
My system is at: Version 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1320)

The Download Windows 10 website suggests: Windows 10 May 2021 Update. The ISO download itself does not seem to indicate a build number.

How do I determine if the ISO Build is the same or newer than my system build?
