Click on Power/Sleep but it goes to Lock screen instead

Win 10 ver 2004. It seems like it is trying to go to sleep because it goes to a black screen for about 10 seconds, then goes to the lock screen. (If on the other hand I click the Username/Lock it goes immediately to the lock screen, so I think it is trying to sleep and unable to.) I've tried disabling Hybrid Sleep, updated drivers, Ran powercfg -requests (showed None). Any ideas? Thanks

Is your BIOS fairly current too. You said all drivers are up to date from PC manufacturer website including video driver. Does Ctrl-alt-del -> Power icon -> sleep work?

ctl-alt-del / power icon/sleep goes to lock screen too.

Re: BIOS I did a firmware update from the manufacturer, HP. That should update the BIOS right? It was a 3 or 4 minute process before Windows loaded.

I've also disabled Quick Startup.

I'll go back to the HP site and check the bios again. It's a friend's computer, I am logging in remotely.

I'm not sure you can put it to sleep remotely. How would you wake it up then?

Are you not able to have someone sit in front of the PC and try and put it to sleep directly (non-remote)?

Please post the output of "powercfg /a" when run on the remote PC.

Post full version of Windows 10 from "winver" command please.

Here is a very powerful little utility I use: NirCmd - Windows command line tool

If you unzip nircmd to a folder and run "nircmd standby" from that folder via powershell, the PC should sleep - do this as a test if you like on your local PC, then the remote PC. I've used this and other NirSoft products over the years and trust them all

"nircmd standby" will at least prove the PC is capable of sleeping

Run "msinfo32" and see if the BIOS version there corresponds to the BIOS version on the HP site.
