    Received laptop from previous employer

My generous former employer gave me a Microsoft Surface 2 laptop. I believe it was a 1703 model.
I am in the US and employer is in the UK. Right after I left. The employer removed me from the network and
I was trying to reinstall Windows 10.

I went into diskpart utility from a command prompt and select volume and ran clean command.
I am trying to boot from the usb drive. I am pressing volume (-) and power key but the only screen I am able to get to is
the please enter system password screen after the Widows machine boots up (see
    the attached screen shots.

    At this time:
I am not able to see what the exact version of Windows 10 I am on.
No matter what I try I am stuck in a endless loop where the all machine can is prompt for the system password.

Can anyone advise if there is anyway to workaround this?
My hardrive was encrypted with bit locker and I have been trying to see if the former employer would provide this
so I could enter this but in my haste I may have compounded the problem.

    Regards,
    Andrew

I've had to deal with a similar issue in that the computers were removed from a company network without first signing the user off that network then being moved more than 100 miles away, screwed everything up. They were running the OEM version. Fortunately I had Win7 discs for 4 of the Notebooks that let me get back to basics with a full reinstall but the other 3 were Lenovo and IBM Thinkpads and not cost-effective for the church to purchase software for them. [IBM spun their Thinkpads off to Lenovo]

    Andrew,

A 'System password' in the Bios is a show stopper. I think your only hope is trying to phone somebody you knew in the former employer's IT section and asking for the System password. But I would be surprised if they gave it to you because it is likely to be a common System password for all their computers.

Some computer makers used to give out 'master' system passwords for users with problems but they all gradually formalised things and started demanding proof of ownership before offering to help [for a fee]. I'd bet MS are also very formal about this, assuming they will help at all.

    For others,

Until the OP reposts those images, this is the best I can do [pictures updated after I discovered a utility called PerspectiveImageCorrection]. I think it is enough to allow identification of the screens.

This one looks, to me, to be a Bios system password prompt, as expected.

    I don't know this one. I don't know Bitlocker.

    Hi Denis,

Hope this note finds you well. Yes the photos could have been clearer.
Thanks for your prompt reply. I will follow up with the previous team.

    Cheers,

    Andrew,

And I should thank you. The tilt in your photos reminded me of my many skewed Bios photos & Windows installation-rebooting photos and I finally felt moved to find a solution.

If you look back up to the edited photos I posted, you'll see that I've now managed to make the screen square on in both of them. I used the free utility PerspectiveImageCorrection to do this. I'm really impressed by its effectiveness and its ease of use. I'm going to add a post [tomorrow] with a basic set of instructions in case it is of interest to you & others.

Thanks for the link, getting it now to use in correcting a few shots. I also need to look for an app to flip a few images front to back, kinda obvious problem when the text on shirts is bassackwords. Fortunately the quarantine is allowing time to catch up on a few things but I still have to stay around until doc and x-rays gives wife all-clear next week for her leg injury.

    Berton,

I'm fortunate to be an Office 2007 user still so I have Office Picture Manager 2007 for image cropping, rotation & flipping. That utility used to be available for separate installation for non-Office 2007 users within a SharePoint Designer 2007 download but MS no longer provides that download.

MS Paint also allows image cropping, rotation & flipping.

I'm writing a basic guide to PerspectiveImageCorrection which I'll post here tomorrow. I'll be grateful for your comments [I'm ony an hour ahead of you in my experience of this utility].

Couldn't you just email your former employer at let them know the machine they gave your is password locked. They should be able to provide the credentials to unlock it.

I still use Paint/MSPaint, don't care much for others for editing. I'm not on the computer with the images but will try later. And I just got that download finished but been busy cleaning up a WD My Passport portable drive, amazing what one accumulates over time.

I also have a copy that was given me of Office 2007 Home and Student for 3 computers but should be able to still use 2 installations of it.
