System is not booting anymore

Hi everybody,

I have a problem with my windows system. I tried to install a new printer. The CD did not come out so I had to force him out. Then, the computer was kind of slow for a little bit and it finally shut off. Upon restarting it, I get the blue screen. Safe mode, repair, ....are not working. I always get the blue screen. I tried repairing for the ISO installation on a USB key, but it did not work as well. I am afraid to lose my data so I am not sure if I should format.

Here attached a printscreen showing my disks. Considering that all my data seem to be on the D, can I format the C:/ without compromising my data??? I also attached a printscreen of the blue screen error message.

Please perform the following steps:

1) Find 3 flash drives that you can format (> or = 8 GB)

2) Make tools that can be used to recover important files, test the drives, and troubleshoot

3) On a working computer:

a) create a new bootable windows 10 iso:

c) Kyhi boot rescue flash drive:

This is not a BSOD. It is a failure to boot probably due to corruption of your boot drive. You would be better posting in the General Support section.

Your data is unlikely to be on the D: Drive because this is a recovery drive for the original state of the system to allow recovery back to the state it was in when it left the manufacturer. It is most likely a partition rather than a separate hard drive.

You will need to find and copy your data before proceeding with any repairs.

Can we use Kyhi boot rescue flash drive to recover the data from windows vista environment? Or is it strictly for windows 10?

In case Kyhi boot rescue does not allow you to recover files on Vista you can try using Ubuntu to backup files.

Now do you think I should try to fix the boot and if yes are there tools I can use?
Or is it better to just format? In such a case, I do not have the windows cd anymore? Can I install windows 7 instead?

Please boot your computer with Windows 10 Setup Media and from Windows Recovery Environment start the Command Prompt.

Please type below command into Command Prompt and press Enter key.

The following command scans integrity of all protected Windows system files and repairs files with problems when possible.

Sfc  /Scannow   /OFFBOOTDIR=D:\   /OFFWINDIR=D:\Windows

Please replace partition letter D: with Windows installed partition letter. When computer boots into Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) environment the drive letter assign to Windows partition may not be C: drive letter because Windows 7, 8 , 8.1 and 10 creates a separate system partition when it's installed from scratch. The system partition contains boot files WinRE assigns the system partition the C: drive letter and the Windows installed partition will be assign any other drive letter usually D: drive letter is assign to Windows installed partition. The Bcdedit /enum | find "osdevice" command can be use to find out the drive letter of the Windows installed partition the output of the Bcdedit command is similar to this osdevice partition=D:. The drive letter after partition= is the drive letter of the Windows partition.

This is a good type. However my system is Vista not Windows 10 :/ Does it work as well for windows vista?

There are commands that can be ran using the windows 10 iso to troubleshoot the boot.
Also Kyhi boot rescue has Macrium which has a feature to troubleshoot boot failure.
So it is trial and error to see whether a fix is possible.
Problems may be related to the operating system, registry, boot sector, etc.

If troubleshooting steps fail an option that works for Windows 10 is a reset save files equivalent using a windows 10 iso.
(Drivers and applications need to be reinstalled)
