    Touchpad mouse has stopped working

The Touchpad mouse on my HP Envy m6 Sleekbook has suddenly stopped working. I am not aware of any specific action I took which led to this happening.

If I go to device manager, the touchpad driver does not show up. If I check "Show hidden devices", it then does show up (Synaptics SMBus ClickPad), but with a small yellow "alert" triangle over the icon. If I open the device properties, the device status is listed as "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)".

    Things I have tried:
-Installing the latest version of the driver from here
-Uninstalling the device from device manager, and restarting my computer
-doing a System Restore to a recent date when the TouchPad was working.

My Windows version is 20H2 (OS Build 19042.867)

Is there a yellow light on the pad? You dont have any other mouse plugged in as that will disable it

On the physical pad itself? There is no yellow light, nor do I think there is even a LED light to be lit up (it has never lit up before).

There is no other mouse plugged in.

Hi, have you tried downloading the driver from HP's site?

As an outside possibility an update you've received may be incompatible with your PC.

Odd that this didn't work, suggesting some other issue:
-doing a System Restore to a recent date when the TouchPad was working.

Try installing a driver specifically from HP, here...

If that too fails, consider that the touchpad may be physically faulty, or its connections needs reseating.

The touchpad is on page 57 of the Service Manual (pdf) here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03935332.pdf

Installing the driver directly from the HP website did not solve the problem

Thank you very much for your reply.

There is a similar scenario here albeit for an ASUS PC: I don't know if anything will prompt thought on your part.

There have been some issues with 20H2 updates - check your Update History and see if you had one around the time this started.

Ok, it looks like there was an update I was unaware of (KB5000802) that happened right before the issue started.

However, the solution presented on the link you shared did not solve my problem.

Again thank you for your reply.

the solution presented on the link you shared did not solve my problem.
Note: I did NOT present a solution, I presented some related discussion on a similar topic for your consideration.

This update is known to be problematic and is supposed to have been withdrawn... but it recurs for some.

Uninstall and block it if that helps.

Was your System Restore point before or after it?
