I don't even know what to call this

So,
I got the brand new Lenovo Legion 5i that just came out, but something weird is happening. Something happened and I had to reset my 'puter, but for some reason it's thinking my external drive is a system drive. I don't know how to change this. It's making changes to files, doing other wonky things... Does anyone know what's causing this, or how to fix it?

It's a serious nuisance because I have password backups getting deleted, as well as other things (mnemonics, pictures, videos, etc)

Looks like the user account/profile may have become corrupted.
or
Did you try and move the Downloads folder (or any other system user folder) to another location ? Was it (accidentally) deleted?

EDIT : Did the external drive come with any proprietary software? To be sure, delete all partitions on the external drive and recreate one partition (to start with).

Hi. Before you start deleting partitions I suggest you turn off the PC, disconnect the external drive, and then try and start the PC.
If it starts up normally, that will be important information.

It is very helpful if we can see your Disk Management window (screenshot) - expanded so we can read everything - when dealing with this kind of problem.

Then there are more questions than answers:

"Something happened". What happened? More importantly: what were you doing just prior to this problem happening?

"Reset". You had to 'Reset This PC', I'm assuming. Was this done manually (you went into settings and chose the option), or did the option come up automatically when you went to start/restart the PC?

"External Drive is the System Drive". Why do you think this?

I agree with TV2, don't delete anything.
I can see one unusual settings.
- Downloads folder is set on E:\C\Downloads

You did some changes. What exactly did you do?
Is D: an external or internal drive?

This is an old thread but I am not sure why those suggestions were given? The folders that display on the top left side of Explorer is called the "Quick access" section and that is just displaying folders you have opened previously, you can tell which ones are recent folders compared to pinned folders as there is no pin icon next to them on the right.

In this case before he did a system reset he created a backup folder called C on his external drive and copied the Downloads folder into it. All you have to do to fix this problem is right click on Downloads on the left there (the one with the yellow folder icon) and click "Remove from quick access", his actual Downloads folder stored on the computer is the one further up the list with the pin next to it and the correct Downloads folder icon of the downwards arrow.
