Please help with BSOD nonpaged area fault

System info:

• Intel Core i5 6600K Skylake Processor 3.50 GHz (no overclocking)
• Asus Z170I PRO GAMING Mini-ITX Motherboard
• NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB
• 32GB Crucial Ballistix DDR4 2666 (2 x 16GB) - (was previously 2 x 8GB of 2400 DDR4)
• 128GB Samsung SM951 M.2 PCIe Solid State Drive (Boot device)
• Seagate 2000GB 7200RPM (secondary drive)

So this will be quite a long post, for which I apologise, but want to try and give as much information as I can. Thank you in advance for anyone who takes the time to look at it.

My PC, when it's up and running, works fine for the most part. No problems or issues.

However, in the last few weeks, whenever I restart the machine, I keep getting a BSOD with a "Fault in Non Paged Area" error issue.

So I ran through some different things to try and sort it:

• Chkdsk and sfc are giving no issues.
• The DISM approach actually made things worse, giving an 0xc0000225 failure (which eventually resolved when it resorted back to the pre-install attempt)
• I ran a memory diagnostic (windows memory diagnostic) and it told me I had a fault in one module, so I actually got some new RAM. But since installing the new RAM, the error persists, although the memory diagnostic now gives no faults.
• I've also reseated my GPU, and even completely removed the internal blu-ray drive just in case that was causing an issue.
• I've made sure every driver I can think of is up to date, too.

After about five or six restarts (sometimes more, sometimes less), it eventually just works as normal, and once it's up and running, is absolutely fine until such time as it's restarted for any reason, and the cycle begins anew.

The machine generally boots ok in safe mode, so I'm presuming it's not actually a hardware fault, but refreshing Windows 10 hasn't solved it either.

When I try to do a Windows Update, it fails, because the first couple of times it'll BSOD, and then upon eventually loading, it removes the update, so I'm stuck on 1903 at the moment. I would rather avoid trying a full reinstall at this point because I don't have sufficient external storage media to do a full backup of everything on there, so want to keep my apps and files if at all possible (I'm beginning to lose hope there, though!)

Last night I tried doing an upgrade install (keeping apps and programs) using the tool from Microsoft, but that also failed. Gives an error saying there's a problem in the "second boot phase" if that helps?
