    Please perform the following steps:

    1) Find 3 flash drives that you can format (> or = 8 GB)

    2) Make tools that can be used to recover important files, test the drives, and troubleshoot

    3) On a working computer create:

    a) a new bootable windows 10 iso 1909:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10
    Download Windows 10 ISO File
    Download Windows 10 ISO File
Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10

    b) bootable Ubuntu flash drive:

I have completed steps 3a and 3b. I have downloaded winpese-x64-14393_17.01.16.iso which I figured out how to burn to a usb drive with Rufus. Assuming I did this all correctly, I am all set with 3c.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

Please do not use Rufus when creating a Windows 10 iso 1909.
Instead allow the Microsoft download to create the iso.

Files can be backed up using Kyhi boot rescue (Windows GUI) or using Ubuntu.

Yeah, I did allow the Microsoft download do all the work. I only used Rufus to make the Ubuntu drive and the Kylie boot.

Comment into the thread after you have backed up files using either Kyhi boot rescue or Ubuntu.

I used Kyhi boot rescue. Works nicely

I have backed up files from the boot drive two ways in two places.

    • I used Acronis to back up files as .tib onto a portable hard drive as well as one of the other hard drives on the troubled PC. During the Acronis backup I got a number of Failed to read from sector ‘number’ early on and then towards the end. I wrote a bunch of the numbers down but then checked ignore all.

    • I also just file copied the disk to the same drives. During this I got Can’t read file or disk for SOFTWARE, intelnit.pnf, SRUDB.dat. A few files required Administrative permission. I could not figure how to get that. Also there were some files that had names that were too long.

Okay here we go. I will do this in multiple posts.

    HD Tune:
For the SSD Boot Drive (The Health tab did not work for this drive.)...
    Attachment 264358Attachment 264359

    For the 4T hardrive...
    Attachment 264360Attachment 264362Attachment 264361

    For the 4T hardrive...

    Attachment 264363Attachment 264364Attachment 264365

    - - - Updated - - -

Now for the SeaTools for Windows Long Generic:

    Attachment 264366

    - - - Updated - - -

And finally HD Sentinel. By the way, it kept saying it was missing icmp.dll. I found a site that had it and placed in all the folders suggested. Then, it worked.

    For the Samsung SSD Boot:
    Attachment 264367Attachment 264368Attachment 264369Attachment 264370

For the WDC 4T data drive:
    Attachment 264371Attachment 264372Attachment 264373Attachment 264374

For the WDC 6T data drive:
    Attachment 264375Attachment 264376Attachment 264377Attachment 264378

    There you go.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

With a backup image you can restore the image on a new drive.

Kyhi boot rescue also has Macrium.
If you are comfortable with Acronis restoration then you should be set.

I do not presently have a backup image.

Also, in getting a new drive, are there recommendations? The present SSD is only three years old.
