Please perform the following steps:

1) Find 3 flash drives that you can format (> or = 8 GB)

2) Make tools that can be used to recover important files, test the drives, and troubleshoot

3) On a working computer create:

a) a new bootable windows 10 iso 1909:

b) bootable Ubuntu flash drive:

c) Kyhi boot rescue flash drive:

Please do not use Rufus when creating a Windows 10 iso 1909.
Instead allow the Microsoft download to create the iso.


Files can be backed up using Kyhi boot rescue (Windows GUI) or using Ubuntu.

Important files can be saved to another disk drive or the cloud.

The Windows 10 iso can be used for troubleshooting.

Yeah, I did allow the Microsoft download do all the work. I only used Rufus to make the Ubuntu drive and the Kylie boot.

Comment into the thread after you have backed up files using either Kyhi boot rescue or Ubuntu.

I used Kyhi boot rescue. Works nicely

I have backed up files from the boot drive two ways in two places.

• I used Acronis to back up files as .tib onto a portable hard drive as well as one of the other hard drives on the troubled PC. During the Acronis backup I got a number of Failed to read from sector ‘number’ early on and then towards the end. I wrote a bunch of the numbers down but then checked ignore all.

• I also just file copied the disk to the same drives. During this I got Can’t read file or disk for SOFTWARE, intelnit.pnf, SRUDB.dat. A few files required Administrative permission. I could not figure how to get that. Also there were some files that had names that were too long.

Please run drive tests using either Kyhi or Ubuntu:

Run HD Tune (free version) (all drives)
HD Tune website
Post images into the thread for results on these tabs:
a) Health
b) Benchmark
c) Full error scan

And finally HD Sentinel. By the way, it kept saying it was missing icmp.dll. I found a site that had it and placed in all the folders suggested. Then, it worked.

With a backup image you can restore the image on a new drive.

Kyhi boot rescue also has Macrium.
If you are comfortable with Acronis restoration then you should be set.

I do not presently have a backup image.

Also, in getting a new drive, are there recommendations? The present SSD is only three years old.
