Can't get out of automatic repair, page fault error loop

I basically do not venture into much software in computers so my understanding isn't there, but I've been an electronics tech so will venture into things. The following is the best way I can describe my issue. I've basically googled and tried many things that come up.

This all started Tuesday night / Wednesday morning.. shortly after a new update.. The computer kept freezing with the hour glass at first.. then went into the error mode.

    Product: HP15-Ay039wm
    Windows 10

    system board id: 81EB
    Bios Version: F18
Processor: Intel Core i3-6100U CPU @ 2.30 GHZ
    Total memory: 8 GB

    Security:

    TPM device: available
    TPM state: enabled
    Clear TPM No
    Intel Software Guard Extensions disabled

    System Config

    Virtualization tech disabled
post hot key delay 10 sec
    cd-rom boot enabled
    USB boot enabled
    network boot disabled
    legacy support disabled
    secure boot enabled
    platform key enrolled
    pending action none

    Boot order

    OS boot manager
    internal cd/dvd
    USB diskette
    USB cd/dvd
    network adapter

Legacy boot ( all in grey )
    notebook hard drive
    internal cd/dvd
    usb diskette
    usb cd/dvd
    network adapter

Screen goes from HP preparing automatic repair to blue with page fault in nonpaged area fault. NTSF.SYS

F11 does nothing... it will not bring up any screen.. still comes up with looping issue above.

F10 brings up set up utility but can only go yes/no .. can not move anywhere else.

Escape .. tried the recovery disc.. will not change from the error screen. I did change secure boot to disable and also tried moving internal cd/dvd to the top to get the recovery disc to work.

Escape then F10 brings up setup utility and can move around but don't know what will do any good in there.
I tried Escape then F11 but still will not bring up that screen.

One search says to go back to a previous point.. I don't know if anything is set for a previous point, but also can't find a way to do it.

I have tried changing secure boot to disable for recovery discs .. still nothing.. It comes up with HP .. and then goes to a dark blue blank screen.. then back to error page.. never says anything about pressing any key to continue.

I tried disconnecting the power cord ( the only thing connected by wires) and holding down the power button for 15 seconds.. still does nothing.

F8 won't work.. I tried changing legacy to enable.. I tried changing secure boot to disable.

At this stage I'm thinking to bring it in to a computer place ( not much available here ) but if there's something simple I'm not seeing, I'd hate to bring it in and pay $$ for it.

    Please perform the following steps:

    1) Find 3 flash drives that you can format (> or = 8 GB)

    2) Make tools that can be used to recover important files, test the drives, and troubleshoot

    3) On a working computer create:

    a) a new bootable windows 10 iso 1909:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10
    Download Windows 10 ISO File
    Download Windows 10 ISO File
Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10
Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10

    b) bootable Ubuntu flash drive:
Create a bootable USB stick on Windows | Ubuntu tutorials
Create a bootable USB stick on Windows | Ubuntu tutorials

    c) Kyhi boot rescue flash drive:
    Toolkit Item: Kyhi’s Rescue Disk – Win10.Guru
    Toolkit Item: Kyhi’s Rescue Disk – Win10.Guru

    d) Download and install HP UEFI hardware diagnostics onto the Ubuntu or Kyhi flash drive: (left side of this webpage)
    https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/.../pc-diags.html

    4) Backup all important files to another disk drive or the cloud using either Ubuntu or Kyhi
(power on the computer and repetitively click F9 > select the applicable flash drive

    5) Test the hardware:
Power on the computer repetitively clicking F2 > run system tests > loop until error > allow it to run overnight for two or more loops > the next AM click esc > run component tests (some are interactive) > find a camera or smartphone camera to take pictures and post images of the tests and results into the the thread

    6) for any problems posting images please use share links (one drive, drop box, or google drive)

    7) boot to the Windows 10 iso (repetitively click F9)
    8) it may take 5 minutes displaying the windows icon
    9) Use the default settings for language, time, currency, and keyboard
    10) click next
    11) In the left lower corner click Repair your computer
    12) click troubleshooting
    13) click startup repair (it is expected to fail)
    14) click system restore
(start with the oldest system restore point and keep repeating up to the newest restore point)
(if system restore fails or if there is no restore point advance to the next step)
    15) click command prompt
You should see a pop up with title bar: Administrator: X:\windows\system32\cmd.exe and prompt: X:\Sources>
    16) type: bcdedit | find "osdevice"
    17) (make note of the partition drive letter)
    18) type: chkdsk /r /v W:
(change the drive letter W: to the partition drive letter displayed in the earlier command result)
    19) Type: Y and reboot
    20) This may take many hours > typically displays ETA > allow it to run overnight

Thank you.. It will be several days before I can get some flash drives, right now on hand I only have one 1G empty flash drive. It appears the issue is not so simple...

The Windows 10 iso flash drive needs to be > or = 8 GB.
    The others can be smaller.
Having the above tools will be useful for this and any future computer problems.

There is a hardware method that sometimes can be used to open Windows Recovery Environment (RE) on the computer.
It's best to have backup options.

Power on the computer > as soon as you see the Microsoft icon > power off
Immediately repeat the same step > power on > as soon as you see the Microsoft icon > power off
On the third attempt power on and see whether it will open the Windows RE on the computer.
If not you can use the Windows RE on the bootable Windows 10 iso.

And if waiting for the Microsoft icon fails you can try to power off between the HP and the Microsoft icons.
Again it's best to have the tools in case you need them.
Using the windows RE on the computer has safe mode whereas the windows 10 iso does not have safe mode.
The Windows 10 iso can be more efficient though when there are computer problems.

The flash drives will be useful in moving files between a malfunctioning and a working computer.
Having an external drive and or one or more cloud accounts will be useful in backing up files.

I tried powering on and off but maybe not at the right time.. My screen goes to the HP first.. then shows the circling dots, then says preparing automatic repair, then goes to the blue screen with error. I only tried powering down just before or as the HP came on.. maybe if I wait after right before the blue screen.

I'm lacking unused flash drives and have meant to get several to keep for times I wanted to store something on them.. but never did.

Thank you. I was unable to get anywhere so brought it in for repair... needed a new hard drive. $250 + tax owed.. now have Best Buy Geek squad coverage for a year since that basically paid for the labor.

Glad to read that it is sorted.

    You're welcome.

Download and install: HP UEFI hardware diagnostics: (left side of this link)
    https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/.../pc-diags.html

Run the system > extensive > loop until error overnight

In the AM if it has made 2 or more loops click esc > take a picture > upload an image into the thread

BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP

The first thing you need to do now is backup your current install. The best way to do this is to use Macrium Reflect Free to make an image backup to an external hard drive. If you don't have an external hard drive now is a good time to get one as regular backup should be a part of your normal process. You can get a 1TB external hard drive for $60 (less if on sale).
