I don't know if anyone mentioned it yet, but this is the another way to disable Firefox auto update.

Find update-settings.ini in the installation folder.
    Not sure if anyone has.

Mine resides at C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\update settings or do you mean a different file/folder when you say installation folder?

I've been using this setting for the last 20years and it has served me well. Notice I have the "when Firefox is not running" box UNchecked:

Ditto. I use the Setting, not a crow bar.

Didn't intend to upset you guys. Just a suggestion.

I didn't invent this workaround. May not be for everyone. I didn't want update nags numerous times a day, but even worse were other related frustrating behaviors, like altering profiles and wasting valuable reversing those changes, that was occurring around 3 years ago. I'm comfortable checking for updates on my own, and I use the Firefox Profile Manager to manage things, like barring Firefox from forcing changes and not allowing you to revert back/downgrade.

There were also similar approaches involving changes in about:config, and editing policies.json, about: preferences, etc.

Do you recall back then when the solutions to the subject of stopping the update message was discussed and suggestion were posted at that time, here on this website, in the following types of threads?

How do I stop Firefox Update from Popping-Up?

This is the thread where I learned to edit update-settings.ini. See the post by Valso

turn off update message after firefox 62.

Image of my settings after altering update-settings.ini.

No need to go overboard, nobody said they were upset. Just rather odd to go to all that trouble when the setting is right there and always has been.

ok. Perhaps some things, like the collateral trouble it caused with profiles, have been rectified. I wouldn't know, since those experiences compelled me to look for other options, I found a simple resolution, and been content with it ever since.

All I was saying is, regardless of whether I may possibly in the vast minority, some of us don't want automatic updates, and don't want to be nagged about them as well. If so, you can try this.

I'm in agreement with TC no one said they were upset but here's the rub, you didn't mention nagging in your post, #270. If you had, my reply would have been different.
Even with the setting I use FF does present a 'nag' popout but I don't see it as a nag, just a reminder that FF should be updated and at my age I need those reminders.

It's great that you found a tweak that works for you and you wanted to share it but it was incomplete by not mentioning that it also stops the nag.
