plug the usb stick into the dell and boot from it.

Start the dell and press F12 . Select the USB drive from the One Time Boot Menu. Make sure to select UEFI if you want to install in uefi mode.

ok - greek to me . Do I want to install in uefi mode? I am really out of it with this lingo. I really should go back to reading books and writing little novels. Thanks again.

Did the boot from the usb but no deal. Goes to "setup is starting" -- but then 2 options come up. Upgrade or custom. I do upgrade which says -- only available when a supported version of windows is already running on the computer - so dead. in the water. I am. The custom really didn't apply to me either. Well, at least I got the boot usb made. That's an accomplishement for me.

You cant upgrade from booted media. You must select Custom. It is normal. I have done it hundreds of times.

ok - chose custom. and it says --- "We can't find any drives. To get a storage driver click load driver" - I can browse - do I look on the usb - or the boot x.. I'm asking dumb question because I am not sure what I'm looking for - I know driver but which or what?

ALSO -- I got to the screen that says where do you want to install windows. I chose Primary - then it said it couldn't install it there.

So sorry - I shut down and restarted. It went to "where do I want to install" - and it worked! Now it's installing. I'll be back with champagne!!

I am at the end I believe - It is now just sitting - "almost done now" -- it says. However, nothing is happening as in little timepiece or something! Nothing happening. What should I do?

I went back to prior screen - guess they didn't like me not accepting all of the stuff they offered. So it's working at it.

I am at a desktop - it says to shut down but since I use start10, I cannot see where to shut it down. When I go to the little thing in the lower left, it comes up with all of the options - how do I shut down?

ok - whole new look - found my way to shut down. I want to thank you kind person for sticking with me and guiding me to my new windows. I will give you a very good rep. Thanks again.
