    Error messages being received

    I am currently running Windows10 Professional version 1903 - Build 18362.778

A number of times during the past week I have had a message appear on my desktop.

Can anyone tell me what it is please and is it anything I need to be concerned about or, is there anything that I need to do to stop it from appearing.

I have also had messages appear in the bottom right hand corner of my monitor. This message says that Windows defender has recognised virus threats and I need to take action. I've only remembered this because one just appeared after I logged-on just now. When i looked yesterday there were a number that were labelled as 'severe' and some as 'medium'. I seem to recall that I had the option to 'ignore' 'quarantine' or 'remove' them.
I didn't know what I was doing so I simply removed them. I recall that the word 'trojan' was mentioned at some point.

Is all of this any cause for concern and is action needed outside of me just 'removing' them?

Here is a shot of the first error that I mentioned above. I can only describe it as looking like a 'DOS' screen

Many thanks for any help that may be offered.

What are the status of the important files?
    a) there are backup images
    b) files are backed up
    c) no backup images and no backed up files

Run each of these and post images into the thread:

Hello zbook, thank you for coming in on my problem. I have been pointed in the direction of what appears to be a rogue update from Microsoft and so I have been and had read of it and I have now deleted it from my pc. I have run windows Defender and this has tidied up my computer somewhat. I have also done an update to version 1909 build No. 18363.778.
I will watch what happens over the next few days and will then report back. Thanks again for your help.

EDIT: I have just run Malwarebytes and here is the result, any thoughts?

In the image are 7 PUP however the total items detected are 157.

    The computer has been compromised.

While you can quarantine the files consider the quarantine followed by backing up files and performing a clean install.

Hi again zbook, can you tell how it has been compromised, I have heard of a 'Trojan', is that what it was/is? I only have the O/S on my 'C' drive along with all of the programmes. All of my data is located on the 'D' Drive and is backed up twice on separate external drives. When I did the Eset scan, I only scanned the 'C' drive, is it possible that the infection also got onto the 'D' drive?
What does 7PUP mean? Why did Malwarebytes show 157 I can't remember if I scanned the whole pc with this one.
If I do a clean install will it automatically be for version 1909 and will the clean install also get rid of everything that is on the 'C' drive?

It would be fine to know what was original malware...

Can you download and run WinDefThreatsView v1.06 by Nirsoft, and post back results.
This tool will display all threats detected by Windows defender. You could check for them individually too.

The computer can be used after quarantine and deletion.
However, if you have passwords, financial or private data, you may want to do everything possible to eliminate any spyware, malware, etc.

Potentially Unwanted Programs or Applications; Avoid installing PUP/PUA
Top 10 Ways PUPs Sneak Onto Your Computer. And How To Avoid Them. | Emsisoft | Security Blog

    Consider the following steps:

    1) Backing up files > this can typically be done overnight
    2) Clean install Windows 10 1909
    3) Reinstall drivers
    4) Perform Windows updates
    5) Make free backup image > save to another drive or the cloud
    6) Install applications > make a free backup image > save to another drive or the cloud

Backup images can typically be restored in < 1 hour and can protect from:

    malware
    ransomware
    corruption of the operating system
    corruption of the registry
corruption of the drive file system
    failure to boot
    unexpected drive failure
acts of nature (flood, fire, etc.)
