Unable to update to version 1903, "Windows could not configure System

Hi, I've been trying to update Windows 10 Pro 64 version 1803 for a loong, long time. I have tried now about 10 - 15 times. I really don't know what to do. I'm sick and tired of doing the same things and expecting different results, yes I know, Einstein said something about that!

Well, every time I try to update Windows, at the end I get a message that says: "Windows could not configure one or more system components. To install Windows, restart the computer and then restart the installation" Great advice, the thing is that I don't know what to do with it, other than, well, never mind!

Anybody that can help me will be appreciated. I'm a 72 year old gezzer, and that may be the main problem.

Thanks in advance for any and all help from you guys.

    1) Failure to upgrade typically produces error codes and error messages.
There are log files that are generated during each failure.
It can be tedious and time consuming to troubleshoot the log files.

    2) Common troubleshooting steps can be performed.

    3) Alternatively no troubleshooting is performed and a reset save files or reset save files equivalent is performed (save files, reinstall drivers and applications)

    4) The other option is to backup files > perform a clean install > restore files, reinstall drivers and applications

    5) Update the specs in the "My Computer" section:

System Specs - Fill in at Ten Forums
In the left corner below in your post you find 'My System Specs'.
After clicking it you can find a link a little below that says 'Update your System Spec', click on this link to get to the page where you can fill in your system specs.
System Info - See Your System Specs - Windows 7 Help Forums

Include PSU. cooler, case, peripherals and anything attached to the computer by wired or wireless (mouse, keyboard, headset, printer, xbox, USB wireless network card, etc.)

    6) There are log collectors used in another forum.
Run both V2 and DM and upload results into this thread:
    BSOD - Posting Instructions

    7) Run setupdiag > post a share link using one drive, drop box, or google drive

I hope this helps as I fixed my issue

    Hi Cuco,
    Try this.
Restart your PC in safe mode without networking
Go into C: windows/ System32 Look for folder marked inetsrv and rename it to inetsrv.old
Restart your pc and download the update. When it goes to reboot the system unplug your internet cable and let it run

Hi, how are you trying to upgrade?
    a. - automatically by Windows Update
    b. - manually - by using an iso file or boot disk you have created e.g. using the MS media creation tool

Specifically, has Win 10 build 1903 been offered to you by Windows Update?
Why does that matter? If it has, MS deems your system potentially capable of being upgraded.

If not and you try manually, that is more likely to fail because of incompatibility. It would help to know which applies. Thanks.

    Basics Before Upgrading:
    a. Make sure you have a current disk image of your present installation so you can be sure of getting back to it - things can go badly wrong. Again and again tenforums recommends the routine use of disk imaging to protect Windows, your data, your time and possibly your sanity E.g. Macrium Reflect (free/paid) + large enough external storage for image files.
    b. Uninstall any 3rd party AV or security software
    c. Disconnect any unnecessary peripherals
    d. Make sure you have, say, 30Gb spare on C:

Analysing upgrade failures is complicated and can be lengthy and uncertain. @zbook has made a start for you. For more, see the relevant section of this tutorial:
