    Update or Not Update

    Hello,
Microsoft drives me crazy, windows 10 updates are downloaded and installed without any notice or permition.
I sometimes notice by quick flashes of the disk light, then I open the "View updates..." and there is a new one (or two).
Recently some update "Helper.."(do not remember the KB number) installed, I wanted to uninstall it, but it was not in the uninstall updates list.
So I first stopped the update service, used macrium backup from 3 days ago, and now the update service is "stopped".
My question: Is it good or shell I enable the update service again.
Because reading in the internet I found that many windows 10 users stopped the updates.
I would like to have your opinion about this.
    Answers will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Motim

You have Pro so you can
    a. set updates to Notify so you are notified of them, and then download them when you wish.
    b. set feature updates (upgrades) to be deferred - for up to 365 days.

Given that, why would you wish to hack the OS?

Because reading in the internet I found that many windows 10 users stopped the updates.
    - most likely related to upgrade problems. For some, limited bandwidth perhaps.
The current build 1803 has had bad press.

If an upgrade fails, it will repeatedly download and retry. If the user is technically unaware, this can be deeply frustrating.

    (a) & (b) give you control. Thus I make sure I have a current disk image BEFORE upgrading, and AFTER upgrading successfully.

I upgrade some months after it comes out- hopefully after MS has released updates which deal with some of the issues found.

Motim, your system spec says you are on 1511. Pretty sure I was on thread where you upgraded.

If you are still on 1511 I recommend upgrading at least to 1703 so that you are supported.

I agree with dalchina's post. I have Pro and I set mine to delay. I might not have waited as long as dalchina but I don't implement Feature updates on day one on my prime machine. For 1803 I waited a month and half.

I do, someone has to find and report the bugs

...but never without a system image to fall back on. Was tempted to do that with the initial release of 1803, but it seems to be OK now after a few cumulative updates.

Oh I join in just not on my prime machine. Laptops get it the day it is released but like you it's image before hand.

Motim, that very well should have been part of my answer. dalchina and Bree both mentioned Imaging. We all Image our machines so we have a path to restoration. A lot use Macrium Reflect, there are plenty of tools, they just need to be implemented.

Hello and thanks for all the answers.
About four months ago I asked on this forum how to update my profile, to give the new computer details, but did not get an answer to this.
So on my new computer I have Windows 10 pro 1709 (OS Build 16299.492), all updates till 13 Jun installed, a day or two later I stopped the updates. I will enable the update service as on all the answers got here.
    Thanks

    Sorry we missed that.

    Thanks dalchina for providing.

Please also look at an Imaging tool.
