From the US version of Microsoft Store, that is if you want to make sure it's legal.

If you already have Windows 7 or 8.1 installed and it's activated, then just upgrade to Windows 10 for free by running the installer found in the root of your ISO image.

You will get a digital license tied to your computer hardware and after that you can clean install without a key and Windows will still be able to activate on that particular computer.

You can find cheap keys on Amazon & EBay but beware of dodgy dealers . Amazon has a better refund policy if you find the supplied key doesn't work.

I would steer clear of those keys and get it from the Microsoft Store as suggested. Only way to be sure. I really don't know why the Home version is so expensive. Previous versions used to be like £50.

    from the Microsoft Store
I bought windows xp keys from not microsoft. And then called
microsoft and get the keys verified. The keys were fine.

    dodgy dealers
What I was looking for was if one of you already had
bought a key from a website and got the key
    verified buy microsoft.

8.1 installed and it's activated, then just upgrade to Windows 10 for free by running the installer found in the root of your ISO image
Can you precisely tell how that is done?
I will have to ask microsoft if it is legal.

If you upgrade an activated Windows 7 or 8/8.1 to Windows 10 Microsoft's activation servers will still give you a digital licence for Windows 10 and activate your install. Once you have a digital licence linked to the unique hardware ID of your PC you are free to wipe the drive and do a clean install, this will activate automatically from your digital licence stored on Microsoft's activation servers.

    Download the ISO from Microsoft...

    Download Windows 10 ISO File

In Windows 8 you can mount the ISO...

EightForums | ISO Images - Mount or Unmount

Windows 7 cannot natively mount an ISO, to upgrade a Windows 7 machine make the install USB instead...

Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10

With the mounted ISO or USB, use File Explorer to find Setup.exe on the root of the drive and run it to begin the upgrade.

    Upgrade to Windows 10

    Wait.... What?
I thought the free upgrade offer was time limited. Did that policy change and I missed it? (Not hard to do)

Microsoft's wording on this subject is curiously cryptic, only specifying that the offer through the GWX app has ended...

The Windows 10 free upgrade through the Get Windows 10 (GWX) app ended on July 29, 2016.

Others have found (and reported here) that an upgrade using the install media will still be activated. Whether this was deliberate or accidental on Microsoft's part is open to debate. I suspect they quietly left the door open to get as many as possible to migrate to Windows 10.

Not that long ago, I did upgrade one of my Windows 10 Home OEM laptops to Windows 10 Pro using a Windows 7 Pro Retail key. Worked like a charm. :)
