When it comes to the compatibility of existing systems to a new release of Windows, (and other operating Systems), We have to realise that things may change so Drivers will have to be re-written, This is not done by Microsoft it is the responsibility of the other party.
The larger companies such as ASUS, should be working with Microsoft during the development, and so there should never be the possibility of incompatibility, and there is certainly no reason to see the complaints, from users that "Windows broke my Laptop" and such that is seen with every new release.
It is not as simple for the smaller companies who wish to tap into the massive Windows Marketplace, as the do not have direct access to Microsoft like the Partner OEMs, but I wonder how many of these companies have Their development staff enrolled in the Insider Program. This of course would provide the development loop that is needed, if they wish to continue making money
There are those hardware and software manufacturers that use a Microsoft update as an excuse to release a new product that only works with the latest OS and just to help sales they do not write drivers to allow the use of old hardware with the new OS ( the most famous of these incidents was the actions of Creative Labs during the switch from XP to Vista, and this ended up decimating their sales in the windows market ).
