Windows Update recently changed my wife's PC from not ready for 2004 to ready. So, I tried to update her PC from 1909 to 2004 using Windows Update. I received back to back fails stating; Error 0xca020007.

I then tried the MS Media Creation Tool. The upgrade worked flawlessly. It only took about 30 minutes.

    Hi guys,

I have not yet received this update for my HP ProBook 470 G5. Today I have received and installed successfully a BIOS update and a Intel Management Service Engine update. But no Windows 2004 update.

When I check on this page it says my device is eligible.

Any ideas about what can I do to get it?

    Thank you!

    Two options:
    1) Create a Windows 10 iso 2004 > perform an in place upgrade repair
    2) Download the 2004 Windows 10 iso to the desktop > perform an in place upgrade repair

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

I have had issues with upgrading for years. I have usually tried to download the iso files and update. Sometimes I used the Microsoft Update Assistant. The bulk of the times I received a second phase boot failure. This happened even when I tried “all” of the recommendations for driver updates, configuring startup files, uninstalling antivirus, unplugging USB devices, and on and on. After a couple dozen or so tries I usually manage to finally get there.

Upgrading to 2004 had the same issues but I finally got one to upgrade. The second machine I tried using Microsoft Update Assistant and it worked like a charm the first try. In the past I have had trouble even with that option.

My 3rd machine I waited, hoping that Microsoft would fix some of the issues with 2004 before upgrading. After the last few patches, lately both of my upgraded systems have been behaving better. So, several days ago I unblocked the updates on my 3rd machine and Windows Update offered the upgrade. That is the first time that I have waited and have been offered a version upgrade through Windows Update. I accepted, downloaded, and it installed without a hitch.

I think in the future I will try waiting for Windows Update to offer the updates and see if it will help consistently or if it was just luck this last time.

...As far as I'm concerned on my systems that have updated there's only one significant bug, the defrag/trim issue.....
...and that was fixed in 19041.488. I had been holding back and keeping my two machines with SSDs on 1909 until that had been fixed. The first I upgraded last week and applied the optional CU. Now that the fix is in the monthly CU I updated the second through Windows Update to build 19041.508.

Because WU checks for and downloads the latest CU as part of the update there has been no interruption to the schedule. Not only can Optimise remember the last time it ran, but it has not lost track of last week's run time while it was still on 1909.
