Maybe I'll do the installation without using my MS login.
I think that is the right decision.

Setting up your initial account as a local account keeps your options open.
You'll be able to call your UserName & hence your C:\Users folder something simple such as Marmaduke.
You can always add an additional local account later on then, if you ever decide there is a benefit to it, convert it into an MSAccount.
You'll be able to keep its internal UserName [as shown in net user & elsewhere] & its C:\Users folder to something simple such as MaximillianOC so you will always be able to identify it as the outlook.com-linked account whatever full name you registered when creating that email account.
    That's what I did.

    All the best,
    Denis

OK it is done, without any interference from Microsoft. I did not log in to my account, I bypassed that part.
I’ve added a second login account with admin privileges’ just in case.
Something I did notice when doing the clean install, it needs to do a restart when the install is complete. When that happens it would boot right back to the install screen. So after a second install wanted to restart I pulled the USB drive which made it boot to the hard drive and not the USB drive. I need to change the boot order.
If it all behaves itself, I’ll start installing the programs that I need like Adobe and my MS Office program and Macrium.

To get the free Win10 Upgrade over Win7 I did a clean install Win7 yesterday using the branded OEM OA disc then installed Win7 SP1 [required for getting Win10] using a saved download. [OA means it is OEM Activated, can't be used on a different brand computer.] Ran the Upgrade from the USB Thumb drive created by MCT and Win10 installed normally and is Activated. Never had to enter a Product Key.

The install was done offline and got the Local Account with admin rights and no password then went online to update.

    Peter,

Yes, setting the boot order to HDD [Windows boot manager] first will avoid having to intervene during booting & speeds up booting. And, as you probably already know, you'll still be able to choose to boot from the USB whenever you want by using
    - the Boot options key, which needs to be tapped repeatedly when the maker's logo is shown onscreen [tapped rather than held down]
    - - F12 on your Dell {F2 is for entering the Bios}, these are also shown onscreen when the maker's logo appears during restart [and during startup after a shutdown unless you have Fast start enabled]
    - - For your Sony Vaio, this might be given in your user manual, on the Sony Vaio website, in the Sony Vaio user forum if there is one & possibly onscreen when the maker's logo appears during startup
    - the Boot to Uefi procedure within Windows, assuming yours has Uefi rather than Legacy Bios

Thanks Denis, on the Sony Vaio Fit14, there is an "assist" button which when pressed before power on, brings up some pre-boot options including bios boot order and so on.
It is still using Legacy Boot, and I am not sure if I want to change it to UEFI. I had trouble with one of my Desktop Machines some time ago, the Op Sys partition got messed up and would not boot under any circumstances, it took me few days to fix it even after changing it back to legacy.

    Peter,

I can also bring up a boot menu but I have to go into the Bios to make a permanent change to the boot order.

I've never done a Bios-Uefi changeover and know nothing about the subject.

You are making regular system images, aren't you? Your current problem & that problem 'some time ago' make me think you might not be.

    Hi Denis,
Using the assist button to make bios changes actually opens the BIOS "page" where one can make permanent changes to the order or anything else bios related.
I am also making backups using Macrium software, I have been caught a few times in the past by not doing so, It can be a hard and time-consuming lesson to learn.
