eliminating log in

I have an old ASUS touch screen laptop/tablet running Win 10. I am using it for reading books in Kindle or Overdrive. It was originally my wife's laptop...she has another one now.

I want to be able to turn the thing off and reopen it 15 minutes later...or the next morning...without having to log in--without hassle or excessive battery usage, IOW.

How do I set it up to open the computer fully and immediately? where do I go to eliminate the password and the requirement to log in? and How to I establish administrative rights for 'user' (me).

Thanks to both of you...I at the shop computer right this moment and won't be able to check these tips out until later this afternoon. But I appreciate all help.

For the fastest possible 'opening' you want to resume from Sleep or (a little bit slower, but no battery drain) from Hibernation rather than starting up from scratch. Resuming from either also means that any book you left open is still there, ready to carry on reading from where you left off. You can set it to sleep or hibernate when you close the lid.

Combine that with Brink's Turn On or Off Require Sign-in on Wakeup in Windows 10 tutorial and it should meet your needs.


I routinely use Sleep/Hibernate on my laptops. The last time this one actually started up from scratch was 19 days ago when last month's cumulative update was installed.

OK, just beginning to try some of this. when I try to sign on automatically using netplwiz it is already set up much like the screen shot in figure 2. If I uncheck "user must enter a username and password..." which seems to be what I am looking for (not having to enter a username and password), when I start the computer back up, I am prompted to enter a username and password.

so unless I am misunderstanding something fundamental here (very possible) that's not going to work.

So next I tried the Turn on or off required sign-in on Wakeup, the subsequent screen don't look quite the same. When I go to Sign-in Options, I get a list of six options that begins with "Windows hello Face" (which "currently unavailable") and so forth. The third option is "Windows Hello Pin" which allows me to change or remove. Below the list is a option to "Require Sign-in" Under that I have a drop down menu that begins with never and offers options ranging from never to 15 minutes, but currently has "every time" selected. Nothing about waking from sleep.

So I am not sure what to do here. If I select never will that eliminate the requirement to type in a pin only at wake up or when I turn the computer on or both?

I know...I'm a dummy. But I haven't got this figured out yet. I don't know my wife's password and since the computer is a bit old and she has replaced it, she doesn't either. And some of the screens and options I'm seeing aren't the same as what I'm seeing here.

All I want to do is by pass the sign-in.

BTW, I have started to post this tidbit of information several times and either erased it or overwritten it: This is one of those ASUS detachable screen laptops. it's great for reading so far but I have heavy hands and clumsy fingers..so using a touch screen to sign in every time gets tedious.
