You have to turn on the MS backup-service first , reboot with the CD and repair the PC.........
I always make one CD , this way , after an upgrade , never used it anyway !!

Because I don't want to make a bootable USB, I'm okay with a Disk - I only posted in case anyone planning to burn to a DVD might be interested...

This is true, but you don't need to make the CD. A Recovery Drive USB made without including the system files is functionally identical to the rescue CD.

I didn`t even add a dvd drive to my X299 system, for 1 thing the case doesn`t have any slots for one, but I can always hook one up if I actually needed it for something. I hooked up a extra sata cable and just left it laying at the bottom.
But if someone wants to use a DVD or CD that`s their choice, you can`t just go out and buy a new usb stick for everything, especially if you just can`t afford one.
I know they are cheap but paying the electric bill, or the cable bill, is more important.
