How to Change Icon of a Shortcut in Windows 10
A shortcut is a link to an item (such as a file, folder, or app) on your PC. You can create shortcuts and then place them in a convenient location, such as on the desktop, so that you can easily access the item that the shortcut links to. Shortcuts can be distinguished from the original file by the arrow that appears overlayed on the icon.
This tutorial will show you how to change the icon of a LNK or URL shortcut in Windows 10.
Here's How:
1 Right click or press and hold on the .lnk or .url shortcut file, and click/tap on Properties.
2 Click/tap on either the Shortcut tab for a .lnk file or the Web Document tab for a .url shortcut, and click/tap on the Change Icon button. (see screenshots below)
3 Click/tap on Browse, navigate to and select the .ico, .icl, .exe, or .dll file that contains the icon you want to use, click/tap on Open, select the icon, and click/tap on OK. (see screenshots below)
Most of the default icons used by Windows 10, are located in the files below.
C:\Windows\System32\imageres.dll
C:\Windows\System32\shell32.dll
4 Click/tap on OK to apply. (see screenshots below step 2)
That's it,
Shawn
