How to Add or Remove "Sleep button action" from Power Options in Windows

The Sleep button action setting in Power Options lets users specify the default action to take when the system hardware sleep button (if available) on the PC is pressed.

Users can specify one of the following actions to take: do nothing, sleep, hibernate, or shut down.

This tutorial will show you how to add or remove the Sleep button action setting under Power buttons and lid in Power Options for all users in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

You must be signed in as an administrator to be able to add or remove this setting in Power Options.

This will not affect the When I press the sleep button setting in Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do (System Settings) below.

I've been using Shawn's tutorials since before Windows was invented by Al Gore.

This is the first time a tut hasn't worked for me.

And to make up for lost time, neither of the 2 options worked. I tried Option 2 first, then Option One.

    Can't win them all.

    Hello mate,

Odd. It still adds it to Power Options for me.

Just to verify, did you close and reopen Power Options afterwards to update it? Restart computer?

    Thanks for response.

I think my objective is different from the objective of this tut. I want to add "Sleep" to the list of options in Start > Shutdown

I'm sure I had Sleep on that list a few months ago, but I had to reset Windows.

I assumed that trying your tut is "fail safe", because if I tried to add something that was already present - no harm can be done.

At this moment, all I can see in the Start menu is:

    - Switch user
    - Lock
    - Hibernate
    - Restart
    - Shut down

    Thanks

Thanks for the link. All the options work as expected - except Alt+F4.

Sometimes it work as expected, and sometimes it closes apps and browsers in the reverse sequence of launching.

    Thanks
