Hi, your laptop Dell Inspiron 1545 seems to be from around 2009. Is that correct?

As such you are in totally unsupported territory. Things may or may not work. Resolving issues of compatibility is a responsibility you have assumed.

    a reinstall of W10
    Please clarify
    a. how you did this
    b. how you created the bootable installation disk
    c. assuming you mean a clean install, please confirm you
    - booted to a Win 10 install disk (not a normal boot)
    - deleted all existing O/S partitions
    - proceeded with installing Win 10

Unfortunately you've not posted a URL to its driver download page.
A screenshot of your Device Manager would also be useful - missing drivers?

    Please consider:
    a. Do the drivers posted support a 64 bit O/S - or only 32?
    b. Using the sound driver posted on your manufacturer's site.

    The forum prompted you thus:

Appologies, I should have said, it's a Toshiba Sattelite Pro, 64 bit, running the latest version of W10.......I've had a look in Device Manager for a Realtek audio driver, but nothing shows up.......I did the reinstall using Windows Recovery........

Go to the Toshi website and find the drivers for your model.

Well tried most things....to no avail......the Toshiba website don't seem to recognise this laptop model.......just wondering what "Digital Output (Intel WIDI Audio Device)" actually is ?......I have two other Toshiba Satellite's, both recently updated to the latest version of W10, and they both say "Speakers (High Definition Audio Device) when the sound icon is clicked.......

It's a Toshiba Satellite C50-A-1DV.........if I uninstall the Intel WIDI Audio Device, from the Dvice Manager, and then
    restart, it reinstalls it......

That would be expected behaviour if your PC has that device present...

    Per previous post...
A screenshot of your Device Manager would also be useful - missing drivers?

There are sites that try to make you think they are Toshiba sites:
Toshiba Satellite C50-A Windows 8.1 Drivers
    - that offer lists of drivers.

Curiously in that one, there is no active link for the Realtek driver...

Download Snappy Driver Installer ORIGIN (only use the Origin version!!)
Snappy Driver Installer Origin – Glenn's Page

Run the indexing option ONLY, not all the drivers etc

Look for a sound device in the list of missing drivers >> Install

DO NOT be tempted to update other drivers just because they're offered/listed, it may have unforeseen consequences. This program is excellent for finding missing/faulty drivers, updating drivers for the sake of it with any 3rd party software is not recommended.
