I can't disable Driver Updates in Windows Update using Group Policies. I'm on Windows 10 Home. I'll go ahead and download the Disable_Drivers_in_Windows_Update.reg file and do it that way.
Thanks for the info, Kbird.

I'll have you know that ALL of my drivers are up to date. Letting Microsoft automatically download and install them isn't the only way to do it.
Official realtek WHQL UAD drivers are released more frequently than WHQL HDA drivers on MUC. And I am pretty much like you --- preferred to update drivers manually without windows update. Doing it my way doesn't prevent you from going to MUC and downloading the drivers and installing them yourself --- months ahead of Microsoft doing the updating for you automatically.
Relying on unofficial driver depository is a thousand times worst on a security level than letting Microsoft updating your driver automatically.
Hi Rhiannon,
Instead of Shawn's excellent tutorial Enable or Disable Driver Updates in Windows Update in Windows 10, which denies installation of new drivers for all devices, you have a second option, to prevent installation of a specific device, in your case the Audio device.
You can start by looking at this article, on how this can be done.
I have been using this Group Policy setting to prevent Microsoft from updating my Intel(R) 9 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller Driver and it's been working flawlessly for the past couple of years.
Now this can be done through Policy Editor, by changing the setting "Prevent installation of devices that match any of these device IDs", but unfortunately you don't have it since you're on Windows Home.
If you want, you can download the Group Policy Settings Reference Spreadsheet from Microsoft, to do exactly what the Group Policy Editor does, via Registry settings.
So I took the liberty to create the following two reg files, to enable and disable the setting.
In the Enable reg file, I presumed that your Audio device Hardware ID is "HDAUDIO\\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0235". If it's not, according to the steps followed in the article above, please open the reg file with notepad and change the last line with the correct Hardware ID.
Prevent installation of new drivers for Audio device: Enable_DeviceInstall_Restrictions.reg
Allow installation of new drivers for Audio device: Disable_DeviceInstall_Restrictions.reg
WarningPlease have in mind that once you follow this solution you will not be able to update your driver, neither automatically via Windows Update, nor manually by applying a downloaded driver.
To be able to manually update your driver:
1. Disconnect from the internet
2. Run the Disable_DeviceInstall_Restrictions.reg
3. Update your Audio driver and
4. Run the Enable_DeviceInstall_Restrictions.reg to prevent MS from updating it.
5. Reconnect to the internet
HTH
Update:
Sorry I forgot one vital step, with which I updated the Warning above!
Before using this process, please disconnect from the internet, update your driver to the version you want, apply the Enable_DeviceInstall_Restrictions.reg file and then reconnect to the internet.
