8297 did not install for me trying to update 8295. It says the best driver is already installed. That is the first time this happened. It is labeled as 64 bit, but apparently isn't.
If you don't have an Intel motherboard, 8297 will not install for you, as its an Intel Smart Sound Technology driver.

Intel claims the SST is a DSP and not just software.
    IntelĀ® Smart Sound Technology
So, unlike Creative who just have a software application that somehow makes the realtek sound better than normal, the intel SST is a chip right? Looks like it would specifically be a chip mostly for handling microphone stuff. With the SST you can wake your pc up with a verbal command.

^I dont think I would want SST. Sounds to much like big brother constantly listening in on what I am saying. (puts on the tin foil hat)

May i ask what the difference is with these drivers? I mean, does the sound quality improve as well as bug fixes? I never really heard any difference between any one of them to be honest but than again i never payed any attention to it.
Usually from an update to another there are little tweaks to the sound quality, etc.
It's true that often you can't notice many differences in sound quality. Sometimes though some updates are "muddier" than others.

So the problem is very "easy" a lots of ppl have the same issue, i mean, popping and crackling sound and also desync while you watch stream.
I tried just for fun to install snes rom to play old games and sound cracking a lots.. very terrible to hear.
I tried also the same rom on my father's pc (in a ..itty pre ass by mediworld) and there is fine LMAO

So i have now win 10 x64 1709 16.299.64 version but i dont know exactly wich version it is, creators-fall creators etc, may you help me to get the proper drivers?

If someone with gigabyte issues you can read here my thread (if i cant post link tell me i will cancel it ) Aorus z370 g7 sounds problem realtek | GIGABYTE USA Forum

I would start by installing the GIGABYTE driver that also probably includes the creative sound package. After that is installed, you can install a 64bit (if thats yer os) version from the MUC. You will want one that is larger than 120 mb (they are usually 130mb) the smaller ones are 32bit.

So for instance, we all like the 8279 driver right now. Here is the listing for those. Microsoft Update Catalog You will want any of the 132.9mb downloads as they are all the same thing. If you do not install yer main gigabyte driver first you will most likely not get any of the added benefits.

More specifically to your SNES emulation problem... If you are using snex9x or any of the other good emulators, your problem probably is the bitrate at which your audio is set to. Some crappy applications dont auto switch the audio to audio that works for it. So I would goto your audio panel and switch it back to like 16bit at some crap hz and apply that and try again.

Ive had games even as late as the new Mortal Kombat on PC that required me to change my audio from 5.1 to 2.1 because they didnt code the game for shiz.

They will work with or without drivers installed, but motherboard manufactures get extra software with their release of the realtek drivers. ASUS has Sound Studio, Gigabyte uses Creative (MUCH BETTER) for atleast some of the products.

You would basically be missing an audio panel that gives you options that you probably want if you do not install the manufacture driver first. Like for instance for me, if I do not find the perfect asus driver for my mobo that makes it all happy - it doesnt install the sonic studio software. Without sonic studio, I would have already purchased a external decoder or a creative sound card.

Hello there, I'm in the same boat as you with the Gaming 7. Not only am I getting popping/cracking noises, but I can't get the Sound Blaster additional software to recognize my sound device. If I uninstall the Gigabyte Realtek package, THEN the Sound Blaster software works. But that kind of defeats the purpose, so trying to find a combo where both packages are working. Did you have any luck with getting the Realtek driver from MUC?

You may need to install the first driver in the series that they have on the gigabyte site. If they are anything like ASUS and give no shiz for their customers, than more than likely the first or 2nd driver for the audio has "all" of what it is supposed to have and the other 'newer' drivers on gigabytes page do not have the extra addons.

If you are getting crackling you could try uninstalling all audio drivers and just installing the realtek driver.

You may also have a motherboard defect. Ive seen a lot of forums with people talking about crackling audio that cannot be corrected with drivers.

I have an email chain going back and forth with Asus now about their lack of support for audio drivers actually... I sent them an email reply telling them that it has been a month since I have heard from them and they always reply with that they are going to elevate the ticket issue and blah blah blah... Its spin.

Hello, .. sooo here we go :/

I build a whole new PC on board Z370 AORUS Gaming 7 and I am having an audio problem too.

Realtek [6.0.1.8281] - sound not working // it worked for some reaspon after clean Win10 install but everything I changed in the Realtek HD audio manage did not affect (bass and so on..) only volume slider was working. (After reinstalling them again = sound was not working again)
Realtek [6.0.1.8210] - (26.9.2017) = working, but acoustic echo cancellation working ONLY sometimes!! After 1 or 2 reboots it's working.. after another once NOT. The problem is that with ''unchecked'' echo cancellation everyone (on Skype, Discord, TeamSpeak) can hear every sound / youtube song that I am listening. After ''checked'' cancellation .. the sound from mic is super clear even my music is at like 200% volume.

But after rebooting PC.. echo cancellation remains ''checked'' but it does not work. After uncheck+checked again it SOMETIMES works after rebooting the PC.

I have no idea what driver should I try or what to do to be honest. But I am 100% sure that the problem is the audio driver. Because new bios, another electrical socket, messing with the cable management, another gpu drivers, new headphones = simply nothing. I was already prepared to RMA the board.. but I've just found this thread.

Anyone tried the echo cancellation check and test or are you guys having similar problem?
