I did order another 5tb hard drive. If i get the chance to back up whatever is salvageable from the drive.
i can try what you and Zbook have suggested in the meantime, whenever the drive comes later in the week.

The RAW file system is a state of a storage device that has an unknown or no file system in Windows.
Repairing a filesystem may be a risky business as sometimes the problem is “fixed” by removing all invalid files. So if you have access to some of your files but not all, it’s recommended to backup what it’s possible to access before trying to repair the filesystem.
Windows can read and write files from FAT, exFAT and NTFS filesystem. The chkdsk command is used to check and repair filesystems. Run cmd (Right-click Run As Administrator)

ntfsfix can be used to repair NTFS filesystem followed by Windows chkdsk . Note that it resets the NTFS journal file, so it should be used only if Windows failed to repair the filesystem.
Try TestDisk command-line utility to repair the file system of a raw storage drive.
TestDisk Download - CGSecurity
• start TestDisk
• select the device containing the partition (avoid drive letter like D:)
The boot sector of the logical NTFS partition is damaged. (Windows error message is usually The type of the file system is RAW. or The disk in drive D is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?)
The backup boot sector is valid, choose Backup BS to copy backup boot sector over boot sector. If Backup BS isn't available, choose RebuildBS.

Ah, i see. I would be content with salvaging even 30-20% of the drive. I was foolish enough to not have the files backed up anywhere else as a contingency so im paying the price for it now.
I appreciate the recommendation, the more options at my disposal the better. i will wait until Wednesday to weigh them out.

Do not, Do not run checkdisk again. You already ran Checkdisk in the first instant itself which is unwarranted.And yes, running checkdisk without knowing what exactly is wrong with the file system has the potential of deleting all files not properly listed due to Master File Table corruption if it was that. You will now run Test Disk to find out the current status of the file system.Detailed instructions tomorrow after I reach Atlanta tonight.We will start our drive to Atlanta by 10.00 hours.

By default testdisk selects EFI GPT. This disk issue did occur from me connecting my external hard drive to my iPad so that may explain why this is the case instead of Intel PC
When do List to search through EFI GPT these are the only results:
I'm not sure if i'd have anything different if i searched under intel, but i just quit and closed and will wait for more instructions as i said earlier.

Good that you have explored Testdisk already.And you have a Western Digital Elements model 5TB disk.Right? Thank God. All other WD models like My Book, Passport etc, are self-encrypting disks. When the interfacing SATA to USB circuit inside the casing fails, it will well nigh be impossible to recover any data since the data in those external disks is encrypted by a chip in the Interface Circuit - hardware encryption.
OK. I see that you have downloaded the beta version of TestDisk 7.2. It is always better to download the stable version 7,1 since beta version may still be under testing to remove any bugs. You may choose to delete it and install the stable version 7.1.
Next, we will not be doing Partition Recovery since your 5TB disk has a drive letter indicating that the partition exists. You do not recover something that has not been lost. Do We?
We will definitely be ascertaining the existing file system in the 5TB disk before proceeding with TestDisk, Only very old 5TB disks can be MBR. Disks manufactured after windows XP suppport ended , will be GPT.
Please plug-in only your 5TB WD Elements External disk to the PC. ( To avoid clutter and remain focussed on that 5TB disk, be sure to safely remove all other externaly connected storage devices, card readers.etc.) You should see only the internal disks on the PC and the WD 5TB Elements disk.
Right click on the Start button > Disk Management. In the Disk Management Window Dlsk Map where it says " Disk 'n' Basic 4657.50GB Online" right click > Properties >Volumes What does it say for the Partition style ? MBR or GPT? Also note the drive letter.
Please post the screenshot of Windows Disk Management for the record here.
