The Dropbox link I posted is for CCleaner 5.78... before Avast and the unpleasantness.
I stopped updating it past 5.78 for those very reasons you mentioned.

And if you wanted... you can get the 2016 version 5.14, here...
Download Old Versions of CCleaner for Windows - OldVersion.com

But... that may be a bit too old.

You can get old versions back as far as 548 up to present 590 just by changing the build number in the download URL.

    Code:
    https://download.ccleaner.com/slim/ccsetup548_slim.exe
    Code:
    https://download.ccleaner.com/slim/ccsetup590_slim.exe

I prefer Soft Organiser for uninstalling leftover garbage but it is £20 for a licence. I t is ver easy to use and does what it says on the tin.

You can get free lifetime license for that but without version upgrades.

Just an FYI. From the same author. Only for advanced users.

Free if you know where to get it.

I have the free Soft Organizer Pro offer on my old laptop with no upgrades but the offer to get it was time limited, and I have never seen it repeated.

My new laptop has a purchased licence - in the end, not expensive and gets updates.

The free version itself has limited functionality.

I was referring to PRO. I'll PM you the link just for info. You don't need it as you've already got the latest paid version.

    Thanks!

And, FWIW, I =had= tried to overwrite the old install with a new one and THEN delete...to no avail.

Off to CClean my registry. (I'd had it, but ran into the same issues already discussed.)

Nice tip. Works for the portable version too, as far back as 546.

    Just chiming in...

Many of these tools are great if you know how to use them.
Personally, I use CCleaner and Revo along with a good sense of intuition.
