    Intermittent black screen/hang while doing random tasks

    Hi All,

    I recently assembled a desktop PC (detailed specs provided in profile system 2).
    I have started observing intermittent black screen while using this PC. All of a sudden the PC will become unresponsive, screen goes black, keyboard and mouse are also unresponsive. However, I can seen that the system is running, but I am unable to get it back without a reset.
    This has been troubling me quite a bit as its unpredictable when it will hang/black screen will appear.

    I am running on all the latest AMD Radeon drivers and also updated to the latest version of the OS(Windows 10 Pro 21H1).
    I have checked the event logs, but did not find anything mentioned there based on the timeline of these hangs.

    Any help/suggestion to resolve this issue is highly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Rinjo

    Hello Rinjo and welcome to tenforums ,

    Confirm you are using the latest BIOS version.

    I would check for clues in the Event Viewer run Memtest86 for passes to rule out RAM issues.

    How can you tell the PC is still running?

    Hi Steve,

    Thanks for your quick response.
    I am running the latest version of the BIOS.
    I will check the Event Viewer again. I had run Memtest86 a few times, but did not find any RAM issues.

    I can see that the CPU cooler fan and the case fans are all running through the glass side window.

    Regards,
    Rinjo

    Windows may have crashed or locked up even if chassis is on. Check Event Viewer around the time it locks up. Also check drive health with Crystal Disk Info.

    I ran Crystal Disk Info. I do not see any errors. See attached images.

    Thanks for the update. Drive is fine.

    Not exactly sure of what errors will say, but if you see anything that doesn't make sense, post screenshot and details. You can also look at Windows Reliability History for possible clues.

    @rinjo

    Try re-seating the RAM.

    @rinjo,

    When you check the RAM seating, check all other cards and cables for proper seating/connection too.

    Try a Clean Boot. If that works, you can leave it this way or you can add one startup item or Service at a time until the computer starts misbehaving. then you will know what the culprit is.

    Looks like one of my post got missed out. I checked the Windows Reliability History and it gave me some clues.
    There is what I found on my reliability history right around the time I got the black screen/hang issues (screenshots below).
