Need for Speed

As some of you may remember me I did an upgrade om my CPU, and touch wood all is running great.

My new issue is simple I have recently upgraded my broadband to 150mb, but I am only getting 100mb, callout engineer, connected up their laptop and achieved 151mb?

I believe my network card will achieve 150mb, but I am unsure how to tweak it, lots of conflicting info on the net, but I know I can trust the info and guidance from here.

Or maybe just upgrade the onboard to a card... Thoughts

Are you connecting your computer with a wired or wireless connection?
Did the engineer connect with a wired or wireless connection?
It makes a difference. When I had 200Mbps Internet my wireless connection speed was about 80% of my wired connection speed.

Thanks MisterEd, for your reply... The answer to your question is as follows.

It's a bit of both, I have an ethernet cable connected to my PC, which connected to an Eero which is connected to the main Eero. Engineer connected to same ethernet cable.

Check your wired Ethernet settings:

Open Settings
Select Network & Internet
Select Ethernet
Right-click on Ethernet and select Properties

Select Configure

Select Advanced tab
Select Speed & Duplex

The default is Auto Negotiation
Try changing that to 1.0 Gbps Full Duplex

Both the wired and wireless are capable of more that 100Mbps. However, the wireless may come up a little short of 150Mbps.

Thanks, again MisterEd for your support and suggestion... Changed Speed & Duplex from the default setting "Auto Negotiation" to
1.0 Gbps Full Duplex, no change?

Try downloading and reinstalling the LAN driver for the motherboard. If your WiFi speed is lower than expected then you might want to reinstall its driver also.

If you are trying to use WiFi are you using the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band? For my computers I prefer 5GHz because it gives faster speeds than 2.4GHz. The only downside is that 2.4GHz in theory has more range but that is not a problem for me.

One of my laptops WiFi speed dropped from the usual 300-400 Mbps to 50-100 Mbps. I tried everything but could but could fix it. I ended up reinstalling Windows 10. The WiFi speed then returned to normal. BTW, then I realized the audio on that laptop was garbled. That forced me to reinstall Windows 10 again. I now have a new laptop so don't use the old laptop much anymore.

Ok a quick update, and a bit of a strange one.

I spoke to a TalkTalk engineer, and he suggested instead of looking for a newer driver, do a driver roll back, so I thought how far back is back, so I removed all drivers and rebooted the system.

Now here is the strange part windows has now loaded a 2015 driver, and low and behold Lan is now giving me 151mbs and wireless 120mbs.
