Ethernet Internet connection lost after restart - or
Only a network reset will (usually) get my now aging desktop back online after a restart.
I've recently done a fresh install (didn't seek out the individual drivers as done in the past, mainly because when confronted with a list of them I've no idea which one(s) to choose.
Also had major issues with ISP supplied modem (Australian Telstra smart modem. WiFi connections to laptops, smart tv phones fine over that but ethernet keeps dropping out.
I have about 10 ethernet cables and have tried pretty much every combination of cable and ports swapping - all to no avail.
Oddly, with the old modems (6 -10 months ago, it was wi-fi to one particular laptop giving me grief; ethernet to desktop was fine. Now the situation is reversed.
I'm sure the physical ethernet port on the PC is fine because once a connection is established it will stay, for as long as the PC is on.
Changing adaptor options, disenabling them, deleting them -total waste of time and I start to lose the will to live.
Only fairly certain method is to choose network reset and reboot (fingers crossed).
There must be an easier way?
