Specific Website Error 503; Works on Smartphone/Mobile.

So, the following site does not work on my desktop but does on my smartphone (WiFi disabled).

    https://www.ps2-home.com/forum/app.php/portal

    Google Cache:
    https://webcache.googleusercontent.c...&ct=clnk&gl=us

I believe the Google cache infers that the problem may in fact be "just me" (despite downdetector claiming it isn't).

    And so does this:
PS2-Home Forum - Site Issues and Suggestions • My DNS for... | Facebook

This is one of few sites left for PS2 Homebrew and I don't have a large mobile/carrier data service device to view it.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Already attempted:
Other browsers (including Opera with VPN on).
    Browser dev to simulate mobile.
    Wiping browsers cache.
    Power cycling routers.
    Changing DNS.
    Flushing DNS.
Directly linking via IP Address 172.67.202.179 and 104.27.182.93 and 104.27.183.93 (Cloudflare does not permit it).

To my knowledge, there are no parental controls or firewall shenanigans afoot and I should be in good standing (not banned).

Hi, no screenshot of the actual error message that I can see.. is it one of these?
Here are the most common ways you might see the "service unavailable" error:

    • 503 Service Unavailable
    • 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable
    • Http/1.1 Service Unavailable
    • HTTP Server Error 503
    • Service Unavailable - DNS Failure
    • 503 Error
    • HTTP 503
    • HTTP Error 503
    • Error 503 Service Unavailable
    • Error 503 Backend fetch failed
    h ttps://www.lifewire.com/503-service-unavailable-explained-2622940
(have to put a space in else tenforums does silly things with this URL)

FWIW I can see the site on FF & Edge.
As you can see also on 1903.

Can you access it when booted into Safe Mode with networking?

Might be some way the site regards traffic - your smartphone via a mobile connection will have a completely different identity and origin.

Does access fail in the same way if you use your phone via your router (wifi)?

That is helpful to know, thank you for checking and confirming that.

The exact line of text is:

"Error 503 : Service Temporarily Unavailable"

I don't know, I haven't attempted safe mode networking yet. (Bit of a pain to re/boot my system; Win10 really doesn't like HDD OS drives lol. Still taking ~20 mins to stop 100% HDD utilization about every time. Ugh. Since day one of Win10 for me
Any road, I turn it off overnight but try not to have to re/boot otherwise).

Yes, the result is the same on the Smartphone when I re-enable WiFi/Home network. Only works disabled (Mobile DATA).

I have never messed with VPN. Do you have any recommendations? Is there one (preferably free) that doesn't involve installation and such, perhaps one that works within a browser itself?

Although, I did attempt Opera's (albeit I understand it isn't quite the same as the others; anymore, apparently).

Oh, probably also should have mentioned that I had also attempted to disable Windows Firewall as well as killed the MBAM tasks and all that. No change.

I suppose I could also try to release/renew my DHCP lease (I believe that should also change the IP Address assigned). Hmm.

Oh, for the heck of it, I also attempted to use Blustacks 4.0 with the Android Chrome app and that also failed (of course it would; but wanted to check if it was a "mobile-only" site situation, like perhaps the desktop version was the only one down not the other. Not the case, sadly).

Well, I'll see if I can't also remember how to "tether" my blasted phone to my desktop and see if I can't get that going to hotspot the mobile network. Been a very long time since I did that... just can't read/study on a tiny little phone screen; not for stuff this complex. If I manage that, and if THAT also doesn't do it, then I'm at total loss...

    - might want to check your max transfer rate. e.g. my copying a large file from C: to C: and monitoring with task manager, performance, disk.

Yes, the result is the same on the Smartphone when I re-enable WiFi/Home network.
    - suggests no basic configuration issue on your PC.

VPN? There are many. The objective is simply to give you a different IP address range so the server perceives you differently by way of an experiment. E.g.
Windscribe - Free VPN and Ad Block

Amusing/irritating - but informative, after a fashion! Just too many possibilities.

Ah. I did just attempt the DHCP lease release/renew in the ISP router and... it was successful. The site is now working for me. That IP, for whatever reason, must have been banned at some point by PS2-Home.

SO... anybody else with similar issue, give that a go. Search for your ISP router model with "DHCP lease release/renew" and something should turn up on where that is at (e.x. it's Status > Connection, for Frontier).

What specifically would I be checking? And what would I do about it (can it be changed)? It is only during re/boot that this is really a problem. The drive passes all diagnostics, I have no issues with it otherwise. I didn't have this issue with Win7 either (same system; same drive). I am relatively certain the problem is not with the drive, but with Win10 itself. I suspect it isn't optimized for HDD as primary OS drive (assuming everybody and their granny will be on an SSD instead, perhaps). Indeed, the suggestions galore I see for this are "just get an SSD!!!" lol. I'd rather put the $120 towards an M.2 for a new build, so...

Good- so my guess at an IP address-related issue was about right- glad you fixed it.

A surprisingly common issue as I commented above is a transfer rate limit on HDDs -> 100% disk usage at restricted data transfer rates - i.e. operating below expected performance. I suggested how you might check that.

Then research the issue, if present, on this site using
    low transfer rate
    100% disk usage

Or it may just be you have a huge number of sizeable startups.

    Hi there
working fine on my systems -- never done anything with DHCP lease renewal and I leave these systems on 24/7 for months at a time. Depends I suppose on router settings - some might default to 24 hrs -- but if this was the case surely you wouldn't have ANY access to the internet from that box until reset.

Currently using Browser Firefox V 79.0 on Arch Linux (kernel 5.7.12) running KDE /SDDM Desktop

Specific Website Error 503; Works on Smartphone/Mobile.-screenshot_20200811_090906.png

(Also works on Windows Dev release 20185

So something wrong perhaps with security settings ??

Some sites can be blocked for various reasons by Courts in a lot of jurisdictions but I doubt if that's the case here for this site -- it doesn't seem to be selling or advocate use of Pirated material.

I think USA and in particular UK block (or attempt to block) more sites than even N.Korea for the purpose ostensibly to prevent downloading of copyrighted material or pirate torrent sites -- however in that case you'd probably get some message as to why the site is unreachable.

    Cheers
